Algérie Poste has chosen Bull to modernize and make more secure its information systems

As part of the program of reforms undertaken by the Algeria Post Office (Algérie Poste) to improve and extend the services it offers, modernizing its information systems and making them more secure has become an increasingly vital imperative.

To achieve these aims, Algérie Poste has chosen to work with Bull – the European information systems architect to support the company in upgrading its information systems, and so successfully strengthen its policy of delivering ever more innovative solutions for its customers, with their constantly evolving requirements.

As one of Algérie Poste’s partners of choice, Bull has once again strengthened its position with the recent delivery of a highly-available hardware and software platform based on its NovaScale 7320 range of servers. This high-performance platform enables operations relating to the full range of Algérie Poste’s services to be processed uninterrupted, in real time.

With this new platform, Algérie Poste’s is able to offer new services to its customers, including, in particular: the possibility of opening a new CCP (postal check) account at a local post office, with no need for a preliminary application to the national postal order center; decentralization of CNEP (banking) operations, which are now available in all post offices; widespread computerization of all postal establishments with the aim of moving towards the development of an IPS (International Postal System) service, giving customers the possibility of tracking the movements and delivery of their mail via the Internet, as well as enabling the creation of a single, multipurpose kiosk.

Chronopost delivers iPhones for France Télécom in high-security operation

La Poste’s French domestic express subsidiary Chronopost successfully contributed to the launch of Apple’s popular new iPhones in France by transporting 25,000 mobiles to 650 branches of France Telecom last week in a high-security operation.

Chronopost picked up the 25,000 iPhones from the French communications group and transported them under escort to its hub in Massy. There they were sorted under surveillance for onward distribution by a special team in 10 dedicated trucks accompanied by security guards to 55 regional Chronopost depots.

The high-value phones were then delivered to 650 local offices of France Telecom under special security arrangements. To ensure a smooth delivery, France Telecom provided security guards at the entrance of each office.

“Chronopost was able to meet our high expectations for this extremely sensitive delivery in terms of delivery times and shipments safety,” stated Claude Sanchez, responsible for transport procurement at France Telecom Supply Chain France.

“For this operation, Chronopost gathered together its entire know-how in express delivery, especially in applying security measures for the treatment of sensitive products. All of the Chronopost teams, which are used to this procedure, were mobilized for this project to respond to our customers’ needs,” added Andrè Valade, Chronopost security manager.

Public consultation on access to mail boxes installed in apartment buildings with controlled access

ARCEP is launching a consultation on how to provide access to mail boxes installed in apartment buildings with controlled access.

An increasing number of apartment building residents are opting for permanently restricted access. Yet, at the same time, changing lifestyles require that more and more service providers frequently enter apartment buildings, to exercise their activity on residents’ request, in particular for distribution or for personal service.

Today, authorised postal operators (1) and press carriers face difficulties gaining access to mail boxes inside apartment buildings with controlled access systems, such as Vigik.

However, article L. 5-10 of the post and electronic communications code (CPCE) states: “In order to be able to distribute postal items, the universal service provider and bearers of the authorisation covered by Article L. 3 have access to individual mail boxes, under identical conditions which are defined by a decree of the Council of State, established following an opinion issued by the Autorité de régulation des communications électroniques et des postes”.

For this reason, ARCEP is opening a public consultation on the solutions and necessary changes to the effective application of Article L. 5-10 of the CPCE. A number of scenarios are possible, on which ARCEP wishes to collect as many opinions from players as possible. These scenarios aim to reconcile residents’ demand for security and the increase in the number of service providers having to enter apartment buildings to meet residents’ needs.

The Belgian Post Office chooses the Esker FlyDoc technology for its on demand Click & Post Mail Service

The Belgian post office, La Poste – De Post, leader in postal services and in the document processing chain in Belgium, has chosen to OEM the technology and infrastructure of Fly Doc by Esker, the world leader in business document automation, in order to develop its “Click & Post” mail sending service. The partnership is based on the “Software as a Service” model (SaaS), which is part of the Esker international expansion strategy for the mail on demand market: a market estimated at over 800 million mail items per year in France alone.

In order to facilitate and simplify the life of Belgian users, the Belgian post office will launch its new “Click & Post” service this year to enable Belgian companies to send their mail, on demand, directly from their computer or their company applications (i.e. marketing mailings, invoices, registered mail, invitations). Instead of wasting time handling paper and envelopes, the users will be able to send mail as easily as an e-mail without leaving their desk.

Esker is proposing a pay-as-you-go service to the Belgian post office as a full application that includes a virtual printer and a web interface in the “Click & Post” design for Belgian companies, an Internet hosting infrastructure, including fifty servers to receive and process the requests from the customers of the Belgian post office 24/7, and On demand post production facilities set up at eXbo, a subsidiary of the Belgian post office.
