Geodis teams up with Paris City Council

Jean Depraeter, Executive Vice President with the Geodis Group and Advisor to the Chairman for the Groupage and Express businesses, signed a charter of best practices for the transportation and delivery of goods (in french) drafted by Paris City Council and transport companies at a ceremony attended by Bertrand Delanoé, the mayor of Paris.

The charter will become effective as of 1 January 2007 and comprises a number of commitments from the different parties involved.

On the one hand, the transport company signatories will undertake to:
– limit delivery times to a maximum of 30 minutes in order to minimise disruption to traffic and local residents;
– use delivery vans that comply with the latest European standards.

On the other, Paris City Council is to:
– establish three coordinated time slots for deliveries;
– adapt and improve dedicated delivery zones.

FedEx chooses Geodis to perform pick up an delivery operations in France

FedEx Express and Geodis signed an operational agreement for a 3 year period. “Through this agreement Fedex acknowledges Geodis’s position as the leading domestic express network in France and a supplier with a high level of service quality, as a result of our Total Customer Satisfaction policy. We will draw on our industrial resources, exclusive Track & trace system and our commitment to permanent innovation to manage these operations”, said Denis Zimmer, Senior Vice-president French regions at Geodis. As of January 1st, 2007 Geodis will perform through its domestic Express groupage network pick-ups and deliveries for FedEx customers in designated areas in France, not directly served by FedEx.

French Geodis strengthens express business

French transport and logistics group Geodis has strengthened its express business by integrating six new branches from the network of local express transport specialist France Express, it was reported on October 3, 2005. The six branches include the France Express units in Strasbourg, Mulhouse, Belfort, Epinal, Tarbes and Brest. Geodis will also acquire 100 pct of the capital of Calberson-Danzas in Clermont Ferrand, a company which is part of France Express through its subsidiary Puy de Dome Express. Via this acquisition Geodis will strengthen its express business, especially in eastern France, as well as its positioning within the France Express network, now managing 74 of the 99 regional franchises.

Geodis opens up European front

Geodis is to launch a new European groupage servicecalled Eurofirst next month, providing customers with online tracking, PoDs and quality reports. The service will initially cover ten countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain; a further 15 countries will be added at the end of the year. Geodis launched the Eurofirst product at its annual results presentation in London last Friday. The main groupage business in the UK goes live with Eurofirst in April and the pallet network, Fortec, is expected to plug into the system in May. This should prove a major benefit for Fortec member companies and their customers, says managing director Rod Abrahams.

French parcel service on block

The French state railway company, Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français, said Wednesday, Nov. 24, it was inviting bids from logistics operators for wholly owned parcel delivery service Sernam SA. The Paris-based train operator said its 44%-owned logistics company, Géodis SA, intended to bid, and that accordingly, Géodis executive chairman Pierre Blayau was being suspended from the SNCF board. The auction is the latest step in the consolidation of European logistics businesses. The seller would not say which investment bank is organizing the auction. SNCF was emphatic that it aimed to find an industrial buyer rather than a private equity firm to acquire Sernam.
