TNT to set up strategic alliance with Germany’s Hermes

TNT NV said it intends to start a strategic alliance with Germany’s Hermes on the distribution of parcels and other mail. The combining of distribution operations on the German market is slated to start in the first quarter of next year. The deal does not involve any exchange of finances, a TNT spokesman said.
Later, TNT and Hermes might start what the spokesman called a ‘joint production operation’, which – at a later stage – might also be expanded to the French and English distribution markets, where Hermes and TNT are also active.

TNT to set up own mail delivery system in Germany

TNT’s Europost unit is planning to set up its own unified mail delivery system in Germany to close in on local rival Deutsche Post AG, Handelsblatt newspaper said, citing Europost head Mario Frusch. As part of the plans, Europost hopes to unite 120 of its 160 regional mail delivery partners in Germany under a single Europost franchise structure. ‘We want to strengthen our position as the number two behind Deutsche Post,’ Frusch told the newspaper.

TPG, German Hermes form mail alliance

TPG has established a joint venture with Hermes Versand to deliver mail in Germany. The company will be called EP Europost AG and Co KG. Hermes Versand is part of the german publishing Group Versand and will hold 29%. TPG will hold 71% of the shares.
