Speed Post launched in Kalimpong,India

Speed post was introduced at Kalimpong on Monday. The facility is expected to boost trade in the region, postal department officials said.

“Very soon same day speed post delivery service will be introduced in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong and Siliguri, thus linking these four places,” post master general of north Bengal, John Samuel said. This allows for a a parcel or document from Darjeeling to Kurseong to be delivered the same day through speed post.

Lemuir Group and Danzas join in new venture

The Lemuir Group, India’s leading freight forwarding and logistics service providing company, and Danzas, the logistics subsidiary of Deutsche Post World Net, have joined hands and floated a new India-based entity called Danzas Lemuir Pvt Ltd.

In the new company, the Lemuir Group holds the majority 51 per cent stake while Danzas the balance 49 per cent.

Mr Snehal Parikh, Managing Director of Lemuir Group, will be the Chairman of the joint venture and Mr T. Menezes from Danzas, the Chief Executive Officer.

Singapore Post gets nod for joint venture

Singapore Post Pte Ltd has been permitted by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to set up a joint venture subsidiary in India along with Consignia (Royal Mail) and the Netherlands-based TPG Group. According to the plans sanctioned by the FIPB, Singapore Post will form a 50:50 JV in India with Netherlands-based G3 Worldwide Mail. G3 Worldwide is a joint venture between three partners, the TPG Group, Consignia (Royal Mail) and Singapore Post.

With new Indian law, courier market won't deliver

At a time when postal departments around the world are tying up with private players in the courier industry, the Indian government plans to bring the courier market and its players under regulation, and that too through the Department of Posts, which, strictly speaking, is an “operator” too.

Representatives of the Express Industry Council of India (EICI) representing 2,300 companies – in which the size of the organised sector (20-odd players) market alone is estimated at Rs 1,700 crore – are meeting the policy-makers and MPs to effect changes in the Indian Post Office (Amendment) Bill, 2002, making room for an independent regulator and an appellate body for judicial recourse. The bill is under the consideration of the standing committee on IT, which is to table its report in the budget session.

Home delivery service launched in India

Indian expatriates can send non-dutiable items to India at competitive rates, following the launch here of a home delivery postal service recently.

The new service, named ‘EziBox’, will cover all parts of India, with delivery to major cities taking one week. Outside the major cities, delivery time is two weeks, said Kamal Hassan Mohammed, Manager of Safeenat Al Sahrah, a regional overland service provider and agent for Empost Courier Service.Items accepted will include clothes, stationery, gifts and food (desserts and sweets), among other things.

The service solely deals with non-dutiable items which fall under the rules and regulations of Indian Customs.
