Blue Dart in talks with global players for tie-up

Following the break-up with FedEx, Indian logistics major Blue Dart Express is scouting for new partnerships. The company is likely to tie up with a new company when the existing arrangement with FedEx expires on September 30, 2002.
According to Tulsi Mirchandaney, senior vice-president of marketing for Blue Dart, the alliances could be either an exclusive tie-up like the one it currently has with FedEx, or multilateral tie-ups.
He said discussions are currently on with several international players, but a final decision on the partner and the nature of the tie-up would be announced soon.

2.5 pc annual growth seen in global postal mail

DESPITE the proliferation of e-mail and other means of communication, global postal mail is estimated to grow at 2.5 per cent annually during the 10-year period ending 2005, up from a growth of 0.9 per cent per annum recorded during 1985-95, according to Mr S.B. Bhattacharya, Member, Department of Posts.

Speaking at a seminar on ‘Business mail: A challenge and opportunity for post’ here under the aegis of the Mail Users Association, Mr Bhattacharya quoted a study undertaken by Universal Postal Union (UPU) and said that, by 2005, there would be a significant growth in business-to-household mail even as the volume of household-to-household mail was expected to drop.

FedEx, Blue Dart to part ways in India

FedEx has decided to invest more in India, and break free from the arrangement with Blue Dart Express, India’s largest domestic courier company.
Once their contract expired in September 2002, the world’s largest air express company will go alone to explore the fast-growing Indian logistics market, said industry officials. The US multinational, keen to end its contract, has been in the process of setting up its own infrastructure in India.

Express carrier and package delivery company, United Parcel Service (UPS), has launched full-fledged operations in Bangalore. The company will now operate own branded vehicles and use dedicated sales force and deploy UPS management systems and technology to provide quality service.

New Indian postal rates from next month

The new postal rates announced in the current budget would be effective from June 1.
The rate of post cards have not been increased under the new rates.The new postal rates announced by the Department of Posts (DoP) include Rs 5 for transportation of envelopes weighing 20 grammes instead of the previous rate Rs 4.
An inland letter will cost Rs 3 instead of Rs 2 while printed post cards would cost Rs 6 instead of Rs 3.
