UPS Board Declares Dividend

The UPS Board of Directors declared a regular quarterly dividend of USD 0.45 per share on all outstanding Class A and Class B shares.

The dividend is payable Sept. 9, 2008, to shareholders of record on Aug. 25, 2008. UPS has either increased or maintained its dividend every year for more than three decades.

DHL upgrades express service network in Finland

DHL started daily flights between Turku/Finland and Leipzig on 15th September, which means faster transport services for customers in Western and Central Finland. The flight between Helsinki and Leipzig continues to serve customers in Southern, Eastern and Northern Finland.
The new flight arrives in Turku at 8:30 and departs for Leipzig at 22:45. The Boeing 737 has a capacity of 16.5 tons and can carry also heavy and voluminous shipments.
Especially customers of Western and Central Finland will benefit from the new flight. Due to the late departure the customers have the entire working day at their disposal for gathering shipments for dispatch. The pickup times will be significantly later since the way to the airport now is shorter. During autumn, deliveries before noon – DHL EXPRESS 12:00 service – will be available in and around Turku. At present this service is offered in greater Helsinki area.

DHL Express Global CEO testifies before House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure

DHL Express Global CEO John Mullen testified before the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure regarding the company’s potential contract with UPS for domestic airlift and related services.

DHL has analyzed all realistic options and the proposed agreement with UPS is part of DHL Express’ U.S. restructuring aimed at enabling the company to remain a viable competitor in the U.S. market while continuing to service its customers. This type of airlift arrangement is common in the transportation industry.

He stressed that as DHL has cooperated and provided information to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the House Committee on Judiciary, they will continue to cooperate with all such requests. DHL informed the Antitrust Division informally of the proposed agreement on May 28, and would cooperate fully in any investigation the Division might choose to undertake.

Romania approves DHL acquisition of Cargus

DHL’s acquisition of Romanian parcel delivery company Cargus has been formally approved by the country’s competition authorities, paving the way for DHL to become the clear leader in the fast-growing Romanian express parcels market.

DHL Romania said in a statement that the Romanian Competition Council authorised the acquisition of Cargus by Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN) on September 4, 2008. The acquisition was originally announced in April, pending approval from competition authorities. The price was not disclosed but given as EUR 50 million by Romanian newspapers.

Under the acquisition agreement, DHL Express and Cargus will remain separate companies and will maintain their present brands and service offering. Integration will focus on operational improvements, exchange of best practices and cost optimisation. However, the companies will work towards single interfaces towards customers.

DHL appoints Richard Owens as Senior Vice President for Global Customer Solutions Asia Pacific

DHL announced the appointment of Richard Owens as Senior Vice President for its Global Customer Solutions (GCS) organization in the Asia Pacific region. GCS is responsible for the customer relationship management of DHL’s largest customers worldwide.

Based in Singapore, Mr. Owens reports to GCS’s Chief Executive Officer, Hans Hickler.
Richard will build on business capabilities and solutions across DHL’s express, air & ocean freight, and contract logistics businesses to lead and drive the growth of DHL’s top global customers served by GCS.

Mr. Owens has devoted 25 years of his career in logistics as well as insights of the Asia Pacific logistics landscape.
