Corriere Executive re-brands to GLS

The GLS subsidiary in Italy has re-branded from its Italian name of Corriere Executive to GLS in the latest move towards establishing the group name in all European subsidiaries. The GLS brand, which was already partly used by the Italian company during a co-branding phase following its acquisition by the Royal Mail subsidiary in 2001, replaced the Executive logo and symbol on the company’s vans, driver uniforms, office signs and corporate publications with effect from April 1. The formal company name was already GLS Italy.

Poste Italiane could be set to deliver banking services

The CEO of Italian post office Poste Italiane, Massimo Sarmi, has revealed that his organisation is considering applying for a banking licence. It could do so in July, when it presents its latest strategic plan, but Mr Sarmi stressed that the company did not currently possess the skills required to operate as a bank.
Mr Sarmi was speaking as Poste Italiane presented its results for 2005. They showed a 13.6 per cent increase in turnover, to 16bn euros, and a 19.4 per cent climb in net profits, to 349m euros.

Poste Italiane net profit at 349 mln Euro 2005

Italian state-owned postal services provider Poste Italiane closed 2005 with a net profit of 349 mln euro (USD431.1 mln), up 19.4 pct year-on-year. Poste Italiane registered a growth for the fourth consecutive year. The group’s revenue increased 13.6 pct year-on-year to over 16 bln euro (USD19.765 bln) in 2005, thanks to the good performance registered in all fields of activity. In particular, the company’s revenue from insurance services increased 31.3 pct year-on-year, revenue from services to families rose 4.5 pct year-on-year and from postal services went up 2.9 pct year-on-year in 2005.
