TPG’s Italian Logistics wins new 3-yr contract from Canon

TPG NV said that its TNT Logistics unit in Italy has won a new three year contract from Canon Inc. No financial details were disclosed. Under the terms of the new contract, TNT Logistics Italy will develop solutions for a new logistics system with a central warehouse in the Netherlands and local warehouses in several European countries. All logistics activities provided to Canon Italia will be managed from the TNT Logistics Italy warehouse in Cerro al Lambro, Milan, which will also integrate the activities of Canon’s central European warehouse to perform all cross-docking operations.

Poste Italiane to register positive 2004 results

Chairman of Italian state-owned postal services company Poste Italiane Enzo Cardi said on January 21, 2005 that the company would post positive results for 2004, in compliance with the forecasts.

Cardi added that the 2004 financial results will be examined by the board of directors soon and they will be quite flattering for the company. He declined to comment on the future privatisation of the company.

The announcement was made during the presentation of a stamp for the 100th aniversary of the Italian vehicle assistance company Automobile Club d’Italia.

Swiss Post International market activities stepped up in Italy and Sweden

Swiss Post International (SPI), the international arm of Swiss Post, is further
expanding its business activities. In Italy SPI has completed a takeover of Porta a Porta S.p.A, including its wholly owned subsidiary, the Italian logistics company Servizi Distribuzione e Logistica S.r.l. (SDL). In addition, SPI will become the logistics partner of HSE (Home Shopping Europe), the Italian teleshopping provider. Boosting its activities in the Italian market enables SPI to reinforce its presence in the business-to-consumer segment and to offer customers a comprehensive range of services in the areas of storage, logistics and delivery, as well as in cross-border mail and goods traffic. At the same time, SPI has acquired ownership of Mail & Logistics in Sweden, its former franchise partner, and is now represented in Scandinavia by its own subsidiary.

Poste Italiane hikes Special Delivery prices by 9.0 Pct

Italian state-owned postal services company Poste Italiane has raised the prices of the special deliveries by 9. 0 pct, it was reported on January 13, 2004. The rise was due to the higher costs of the company and the improved quality of the services. The price of the special delivery of a letter in one day increased to 8.5 euro (USD11.3) from 8.0 euro (USD10.6). The special delivery of a parcel in one day went up to 13 euro (USD17.2) from 12 euro (USD15.9), while the price of a parcel consigned in three days rose to 8.0 euro from 7.0 euro (USD9.3). Recently Poste Italiane has raised the prices of the ordinary parcels to 7.0 euro from 5.16 euro (USD6.8).
