Italy’s Elsag to build mail-sorting center in Moscow Region

Russia’s state-owned Russian Post company has signed a contract with Italy’s Elsag to build the first automated mail-sorting center in the Moscow Region, Russian Post’s General Director Igor Syrtsov said Thursday. The construction of the center would be funded by loans, he said. The center would be able to sort up to 3 million items of mail daily and would service the city of Moscow and the Chukotka Autonomous District, as well as the Moscow, Tver, Ivanovo, Kostroma, Ryazan, Tula, Vladimir, and Kaluga Regions.

The International AddressGuide – now published with eastern European countries

The cross-border sourcing of addresses for direct mailing is becoming easier for eastern European countries: the new edition of the International AddressGuide from Swiss Post International now also includes, alongside the existing 15 countries in western Europe, new entries for Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia. The AddressGuide lists 500 providers from 20 countries and describes what they have to offer, with key figures such as the number of company addresses, decision-makers, private addresses, selection criteria, and the extent of their special address databases. To help users evaluate potential suppliers, the guide provides information such as year of establishment and number of employees. For each country, it also contains an outline of the address market with detailed information on prices, data protection, return rates, address formats and the correct salutations.

Poste Italiane Opens Office in Campobasso

Italian state-owned postal services company Poste Italiane opened on September 25, 2004 an office in Campobasso, in the region of Molise. The new office will service its clients at two departments. The first one will provide service offered by the post-office bank Bancoposta and the second one will be in charge of the postal services. Campobasso mayor Giuseppe Di Fabio, Poste Italiane director for the southern area of the Apulia, Molise and Basilicata regions Salvatore Malerba and the territorial manager for Molise Giuseppe Di Vece were present at the opening of the office.

Italy TNT Global Express Appoints Massimo Silvetti CEO

TNT Global Express, the Italian unit of Dutch mail, express and logistics services provider TPG NV, appointed Massimo Silvetti its new CEO, it was reported on September 23, 2004. Silvetti was nominated by the management board of TPG. TNT Global Express registered a turnover of some 500 mln euro (USD613.9 mln) in 2003. The company employs some 8, 000 people. TNT Global Express has 135 offices in Italy, 3, 400 trucks and six aircraft. The company transports an average of over 140, 000 deliveries daily.

Deutsche Post director says interested in stake in Italy’s post operator

Deutsche Post AG director Peter Kruse said his company could be interested in taking a stake in Italy’s postal operator Le Poste in any privatisation by the government. In comments cited by Il Sole 24 Ore Saturday, Kruse said that first there will have to be a political consensus on privatising the postal operator, like there has been in Germany. ‘We have still not seen any official announcement, but it is surely the case that we are ready to consider it attentively,’ he said, referring to any privatisation in Italy. Deutsche Post is watching developments in other European countries, he said.
