FedEx Italia has emerged as the first customer of a major logistics centre being constructed 2km from Milans Malpensa airport. The express operator is taking a 1,7000sq metre unit, with an option to double up, in the Avioport logistics park.

Italian insurance group Assicurazioni Generali has expressed interest before the German Ministry of Finance to buy a 25percent stake in German Postbank AG, the banking unit of local logistics and postal services operator Deutsche Post. Other companies interested in the deal are French bank Credit Agricole SA and Deutsche Bank.

A representative of CDP took part in Poste Italiane’s board of directors’ meeting on May 3, 2004, and no such plans were talked of, Sarmi added. Sarmi was asked if he knew of any plans of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti to raise its current 35 pct stake in Poste Italiane at a news conference on May 4, 2004.
