DHL launches Indian ‘Rakhi Express’ service

Sisters can now send ‘rakhis’ to their brothers living overseas, along with a box of kumkum, some rice, a letter and a gift at a discount of 50 per cent, thanks to a new service by world’s leading logistics firm DHL.
The ‘Rakhi Express’ service is available from August 9 to 29 and “is designed to bridge the distance between families across countries,” DHL said.
The DHL Rakhi Express service is timed to coincide with this year’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’, the festival that celebrates sisters’ love for their brothers.

Panel decides outline for Japan Post breakup

A key Japanese government panel have decided on an outline of its plan to divide Japan Post’s operations into four companies after the public corporation’s full privatisation in 2017.

In the outline, the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy stated that the four functions of Japan Post – its mail service, “Yucho” savings, “Kanpo” insurance, and over-the-counter operations will be separated into four companies under a holding company.

LDP sets Sept deadline for Japan postal reforms plan

The Liberal Democratic Party–in a move seen as a switchover from strong skepticism to a more conciliatory outlook toward Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi’s postal services privatization initiative–decided Monday to draw up its own privatization plans for the services by the end of September.

The move apparently is in line with government plans to work out a draft program on the specifics of privatizing the postal services by the end of September.

Fukushiro Nukaga, chairman of the LDP’s Policy Research Council, said in a program broadcast Monday on NHK, “Our party will launch full-scale discussions (on postal services privatization) in August to single out major problems relevant to the issue, and draw up a framework proposal in September.”

Govt may order Japan Post to hold JGBs even after privatization

The Japanese government may ask Japan Post to maintain its current government bond holdings until maturity even after it is privatized, the Asahi Shimbun reported, without citing sources. The government is also considering adopting legal measures binding Japan Post to manage JGBs as its main investment instrument, the newspaper said.

The moves are aimed at reducing risks of a collapse in Japanese government bond market, which would affect government funding.

DHL sees rise in Asia-Pacific market share

DHL has said it expected its expand its 40 percent share of the Asia-Pacific express courier market by one-to-two percentage points in the next few years, fuelled by growth in China. DHL, a unit of Deutsche Post AG, earned about 2.5 billion euros in revenue from its express and logistics businesses in Asia last year, about 11 percent of DHL’s total global turnover.

“We are getting 20 to 25 percent growth in Japan. But China is twice as fast as that,” DHL Express chief executive John Mullen told a news conference.
Mullen said revenue at DHL’s China express have grown 35 to 45 percent annually over the last five years.
