4 Japan Post firms to be called Japan Post Group

Companies to emerge under Japan Post after its privatization in October 2007 will be called Japan Post Group, according to the public postal corporation’s privatization plan draft obtained by The Yomiuri Shimbun.

Japan Post Corp., which will become the holding company of the four separate entities, is considering calling its savings bank Yucho Ginko (postal savings bank), and its postal life insurance firm Kampo Seimei Hoken (postal life insurance).

Businessmen to head 4 Japanese postal entities after privatization

The government on Tuesday announced the appointment of private-sector businessmen as chief executive officers of the four companies to be created through the privatization of postal services in October 2007.

Koji Furukawa, a 68-year-old senior adviser to the president at Mitsubishi Corp., will take the helm of the postal savings bank, while President Josuke Shindo, 61, of Tokio Marine & Nichido Systems Co., will become the CEO of the postal insurance company, Internal Affairs and Communications Minister Heizo Takenaka said at a press conference.

The top post of the mail delivery service company will be assumed by Norio Kitamura, 64, chairman of Toyota Motor Italia, and the company in charge of over-the-counter services at post offices will be headed by Shigeo Kawa, a 59-year-old corporate officer of Ito-Yokado Co., Takenaka added.

DHL, the world’s leading express and logistics company, today announced the launch of its ‘Green Logistics’ environmental initiatives in Japan. As a first step, DHL Japan will begin using a fuel-cell car, a hybrid truck and bicycles in its collection and delivery services, primarily in Tokyo.

TNT 'will not give up' on Japanese talks

TNT, the Dutch post group, has insisted talks to forge a joint venture with Japan Post are very much alive, in spite of the Japanese saying they have abandoned the plan.

Rebutting media reports that talks had broken down, Peter Bakker, TNT chief executive, said: “I want to emphasise we are still in discussions with Japan Post. We are confident we are making progress (so) we are not going to give up.”

Dutch TNT To Renew Coop Talks with Japan Post

Dutch mail and express deliveries group TNT NV will renew negotiations with Japan Post about a strategic cooperation, TNT CEO, Peter Bakker, said on June 28, 2006.

Our initial deadline to set up an international express services joint venture cannot be met, chiefly due to the ongoing privatisation of Japan Post, Bakker added. TNT and Japan Post said earlier this week that the joint venture talks between them were ended. According to Bakker, there are many other cooperation opportunities.
