Belgian De Post/La Poste to cut capital to 270 mln Euro

Belgian postal service company De Post/La Poste plans to decrease its capital to 270 mln euro (USD315.7 mln) from 603.6 mln euro (USD705.8 mln), Bruno Tuybens, the Belgian Secretary of State for Public Enterprise, said on November 12, 2005, confirming media reports.

The capital reduction is a ‘routine accounting practice’, Tuybens added.

The move is not linked with the planned deal, in which a consortium led by Danish post office Post Danmark will buy a stake in De Post/La Poste, nor with the amount distributed by the postal company to the Belgian government, Tuybens said.

1,000 jobs seen at risk in Belgian postal route reorganisation

The postal route reorganisation planned by the Belgian postal service company De Post/La Poste might cost 1,000 full-time jobs, Lieve Vanoverbeke with the local ACV-Transcom trade union said on November 11, 2005.

The re-planning of the postal routes, dubbed Georoute 2, started on November 5, 2005 and will last between 16 and 18 months.

The introduction of the Georoute postal routes scheme in 2003 and 2004 was opposed by De Post/La Poste staff, who initiated strikes at a number of post offices.

Belgian De Post/La Poste searches partners for PostPunten expansion

Belgian postal services company De Post/La Poste is in search for partners for an expansion of its sales counters PostPunten in 2006, a local information news website reported on November 8, 2005. The PostPunten’s expansion depends on the evaluation of the results of the 50 experimental PostPunten in December 2005. The experimental PostPunten are based in the stores of Delhaize, in retail units of news periodicals distributor Press Shop and in the offices of Belgian bank Fortis. The evaluation of the PostPunten, carried out in May 2005, was positive, the De Post/La Poste spokesman Piet Van Speybroeck said. The company plans to increase the number of its sales counters to 130 by the end of 2006.

Belgian De Post/La Poste, eBay Belgium sign agreement

Belgian postal services company De Post/La Poste and eBay Belgium, a unit of the U.S. online auction house eBay, have signed a cooperation agreement for easy sending of parcels, it was reported on October 21, 2005.

Under the agreement, henceforward the eBay users will be able to send more easily parcels through De Post/La Poste. eBay Belgium, which has more than one million registered users, will launch a send centre on its website, providing information about the parcel services of De Post/La Poste.

Belgian De Post/La Poste to introduce experimental project in Maaseik

Belgian postal services company De Post/La Poste will introduce an experimental project in Maaseik, in eastern Belgium, under which postmen will make home deliveries of books and CD’s from the local library on October 25, 2005.

The project is a service for disabled people, elderly people, or long-time sick people.

Disabled people, elderly, or long-time sick people are able to order books and CD’s through the library’s online catalogue. People who are not familiar with the use of the Internet will use a form with their favourite genres and the preferred format.
