French Sidetrade signs integration, distribution contract with Maileva

French financial software solutions provider Sidetrade has signed an integration and distribution contract with French mail services company Maileva, a subsidiary of French national post office La Poste, it was reported on August 24, 2005. Under the contract Sidetrade will integrate the Maileva service for sending paper documents from a computer within its online platform Sidetrade Network. Sidetrade will offer outsourcing mailing services for mails, e-mails and faxes using the Maileva technology which allows the users to send electronic versions of documents to Maileva. These documents are then addressed to the recipient via fax, e-mail or via the postal office.

Hand Held Products signs five year maintenance contract with DPD

Hand Held Products, the world’s leading supplier of image-based data capture systems, has signed a pan-European agreement with DPD (Deutscher Paket Dienst GmbH & Co KG), a subsidiary of La Poste and part of the GeoPost group. Under the new agreement, which runs until 2010, Hand Held Products will provide support and maintenance services on over 6,000 Dolphin 9500 mobile computers. The Dolphins are being used in DPD’s depots and delivery trucks in Europe. The two companies had already signed an agreement earlier this year, when DPD installed an automated delivery scan system based around the Dolphins.

France’s La Poste wants to double int’l package delivery ops by end-2006

France’s state-owned La Poste mail carrier wants to double the size of its DPD international package delivery business by the end of next year by expanding its network of partners worldwide, Claude Begle, head of the unit, told the Financial Times Deutschland. ‘Our goal is to double the size of our business by the end of 2006,’ Begle told the Financial Times Deutschland. ‘In order to do this we will build up a worldwide package delivery network together with partners on four continents.’ The newspaper also said that the decision to expand DPD outside of Europe represents a radical shift in La Poste’s strategy. Previously, La Poste saw DPD as primarily a European company.

French postal bank project delayed

The French post office, La Poste, now intends to apply before the end of the month to the French regulator of credit establishments and investment firms, CECEI, for permission to operate a postal bank. Initially, the application was to have been made by the middle of the month. On the other hand, La Poste has speeded up the process by deciding that it is not legally obliged to wait until the relevant decree appears in the French government gazette, ‘Journal Officiel’, before seeking the CECEI’s approval.
