La Poste Slashes Broadband, Dial-up Net Access Fees

French postal operator La Poste is cutting its Internet access rates in a bid to compete more effectively with strong rivals including France Telecom’s Wanadoo service. La Poste hopes to increase the subscriber base of the its service, which debuted in March of last year. As well as the price cuts for both broadband and narrowband services, La Poste is also making it easier for consumers to sign up for the service at any of its 14,000 branch offices rather than having to call a special phone number or go online. The price cuts cover both broadband and dial-up services of the post.

Spain’s Seur shareholders close deal with La Poste over 21 pct stake

Shareholders holding 78.8 pct of logistics group Seur have closed a deal with state-owned French postal service La Poste over the acquisition of the Madrid franchise, representing 21.2 pct of the company, Cinco Dias reported Saturday, without naming a source. JP Morgan and private equity firm Bridgepoint have also been interested in acquiring the stake, currently in the hands of Seur founder and chairman Justo Yufera.

La Poste beats JP Morgan and Bridgepoint to Spanish Seur

The owners of Spanish express courier company Seur have entered into an agreement with French postal group La Poste to prevent the entry of US venture capital company JP Morgan Partners and British venture capital group Bridgepoint. The 63 franchisers and shareholders in the group exercised their pre-emptive rights and held onto the 21.4 per cent of the company and the Madrid office of the firm, which accounts for more than 18 per cent of total company turnover, that the founder Justo Yufera, had offered for sale. The Spanish restrictive practices commission has yet to give the operation the green light.

French Postal Workers to Stage Sorting Strike

Employees of the 130 mail-sorting centers of the French post office, La Poste, have been urged by their unions to stop work today in protest against the organization’s plans to restructure its mail-sorting operations. The overhaul, which is intended to prepare La Poste for the liberalization of the European postal sector in five years’ time, threatens 80 sorting centers and 20 per cent of the group’s 30,000 mail-sorting jobs, say the unions. La Poste management dismisses those figures but has declined to comment further on the issue until after its talks with unions finish in July.
