Agreement between DHL Express and Post Danmark

DHL Express and Post Danmark has now made an agreement that Post Danmark that in the future will handle pick-up’s, sorting and distribution of domestic shipments for DHL Express (former A Post). The agreement will be effective as of November 3rd 2003.

“We welcome DHL Express as a customer in this area. With this agreement, we gain more volume in our parcel business and an inproved capacity utilisation at our sort centres. With this agreement we continue the growth Post Danmark has experienced on the Danish parcel market during the last year”, says Deputy Executive Carsten Dalbo Pedersen, Post Danmark.

Technology will make mail even more valuable to business

Michael J. Critelli, chairman and CEO of Pitney Bowes Inc, stated that in the future, the mail stream would provide higher value to business, while becoming more affordable, accessible, information-rich and secure.

During a presentation hosted by the Prudential Equity Group, Critelli also cited a recent report by the bi-partisan commission on the U.S. Postal Service established by President Bush that “validates Pitney Bowes’ vision about the on-going importance of mail in American life and commerce, and the application of technology to make it even more valuable in the future.”

UK postal union welcomes select committee inquiry into Royal Mail finances

The Communication Workers Union has welcomed the Trade and Industry select committee’s decision to look at the finances of Royal Mail.

CWU general secretary David Ward yesterday called on the all-party group to look at Royal Mail after accusing management of exaggerating the extent of the company’s problems.

Committee chairman Martin O’Neill told AFX News he would be summoning all parties to a hearing in early October when parliament returns after the political party conferences.

USPS plans to reduce debt by $3.8b

The Postal Service expects to end this fiscal year $4.2 billion in the black, allowing it to pay off a substantial amount of debt.

Chief Financial Officer Richard Strasser said the financial plan is to reduce debt by $3.8 billion this year to $7.3 billion.

Blair accused over mail deliveries plans

Union leaders have accused the Prime Minister of refusing to meet them to discuss controversial plans to switch mail deliveries from rail to road.

A delegation of MPs is due to meet Tony Blair next week to discuss the issue, but union leaders claimed they had been snubbed.

Bob Crow, general secretary of the Rail Maritime and Transport Union, said the door was always open to business leaders, but had been “slammed in the faces” of unions.
