ParcelXchange Worldwide success in France

Business Direct, the UK’s leading developer of ‘intelligent drop box’ logistics solutions, has commenced a trial of the ParcelXchange with Ciblex in France. This comes only a short time after the company decided to offer national Post Offices and local logistics service providers outside the UK access to its intelligent advanced technology.

Ciblex is the leading pre-8am parts delivery provider in France, formerly part of the successful Hays Group of companies. After researching the supplier market, Ciblex recognised the dynamic capability and benefits of the ParcelXchange modular locker system as a perfect solution to complement their existing network. They strongly believe that the ParcelXchange will add a dynamic and innovative solution to give them competitive advantage within their growing supply chain capability.

ParcelXchange will provide Ciblex’s customers the benefit of 24/7 convenience, with completely secure and controlled access for both the collecting and returning of goods through the Ciblex delivery network. The specific nature of the new modular style ParcelXchange offers the potential to have as many different configurations as each of the individual locations within the Ciblex network needs.

Ciblex already has over 400 locations with key lockers but feels that the addition of real time reporting and secure ATM access will help their existing B2B business and also with their B2C business. The company believes that the ParcelXchanges will provide a cost-effective consolidation of the deliveries, while maintaining their already high levels of customer service.

Teddy Megarbane, Ciblex President, stated, “The new modular intelligent ParcelXchange is the most exciting opportunity to happen in the in-night real-time inventory management sector in France for a long time. This is another example of Ciblex continuous investment in the business and this innovative new modular locker system with its SoftLocker ATM style technology, supplied by ParcelXchange Worldwide will ensure we are well positioned to constantly meet the growing needs of our customers”.

“We have produced a cost effective, sustainable, flexible solution for the ‘last mile’ in the delivery process,” says Business Direct’s ParcelXchange Worldwide MD, Tim Houstoun. “Ciblex now has the opportunity for an even greater competitive advantage in their B2B marketplace for deliveries and managing returns and in developing a network of ParcelXchanges, can also engage in using the system network for other B2C, consumer to consumer (C2C) services.”

USPS launches expedited legal-sized envelopes

USPS has launched new legal-sized Express Mail and Priority Mail envelopes, available to customers free of charge.
The new Express Mail envelope allows legal-sized papers to be sent without folding anywhere in the U.S. for the lowest price of any guaranteed overnight service. The new Priority Mail legal-sized envelope provides two-day delivery to most U.S. locations at an even lower price. And both can also be used to ship internationally.
Unlike envelopes from other carriers, Express Mail and Priority Mail may be delivered to mailboxes, mail slots and P.O. Boxes, making it the most secure option for legal-sized documents in the U.S.
The new envelope sizes are part of the Postal Service’s ongoing focus to enhance shipping services for customers, which include several flat-rate package options as well as new, competitive zone-based prices, online discounts and volume rebates launched May 12. And, later this year, there will be a new letter-sized Express Mail envelope. The envelope, designed for use by commercial mailers with automated mailing equipment provides easy access to any size mailbox for time-sensitive documents.
Both of the new legal-sized envelopes have been Cradle-to-Cradle certified, meaning they meet the highest independent standards for recyclability and environmental soundness.

Post Office blacklisting confirmed

Internet retailer Amazon.com has confirmed that it will not use the South African Post Office for door-to-door deliveries, citing the need for the postal utility to improve its customer services.

In an interview via e-mail, Patty Smith, director of corporate communications for Amazon.com, diplomatically confirmed that a decision had been taken to change postal options, and this commenced on June 12.

Smith would not elaborate on why the SAPO’s customer services needed improving.

On Sunday, the Sunday Tribune made damning claims that the country’s postal service is the only one in Africa to have been blacklisted because of the large number of items that have gone missing, presumed stolen.

Russian Post and Aeroflot in cooperation deal

Russian Post has sealed a major cooperation agreement with Aeroflot to speed up mail and express shipment transportation and will also start selling airline tickets in its nationwide postal offices. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Russian Post CEO Andrei Kazmin and Aeroflot CEO Valery Okulov on Friday (June 20).

The Russian postal operator announced that the cooperation is designed to increase the speed of mail handling at airports and to increase mail volumes transported via Aeroflot and its SkyTeam alliance partners. The mutual cooperation would help it to establish a leading position in express transportation of urgent shipments, it pointed out.

Kazmin said the agreement will enable the two companies to better respond to the needs of private and business customers for high-quality postal and transport logistics solutions.

Under the agreement, the two companies will coordinate their activities to keep up with the demand for air transportation of mail, especially in the north of Russia, Siberia and Far East, by expanding the air network of domestic mail transportation and using appropriate types of freighters.

The memorandum also includes sales of Aeroflot tickets in post offices as well as joint advertising and other projects through the mutual use of the companies’ networks and opening of Russian Post service points at Sheremetyevo international airport.

USPS submits network plan to Congress

The US Postal Service submitted its network plan, which outlines the agency’s initiatives to produce better and more efficient operations and customer service, with Congress last week.

The network plan is a requirement of the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006. It was developed following consultations with the Postal Regulatory Commission initiated in February.

According to the USPS, the plan “positions the postal service to pursue achievement of the newly established service standards, and better ensures the long-term financial stability of the postal service and the mailing industry.”

The document addresses the USPS’s performance goals, which include the establishment of baseline performance targets for various market-dominant products. It also lists a number of initiatives designed to improve the consistency of internal mail flow management practices, including software advancements, value stream mapping and data system enhancements.

Plans for alternative retail options are also outlined in the document. “Whether through traditional bricks-and-mortar post office locations, other retail locations, or online, the postal service will continue to actively promote increased customer use of efficient and easy-to-use retail access channels,” the USPS wrote.
