A high-level delegation from Saudi Post visited Emirates Post and discussed areas for increased co-operation and new business ventures.

The delegation led by Dr Mohammed Saleh Benten, Saudi Post chairman, met Emirates Post president Abdulla Al Daboo and signed an agreement to launch a new project for cargo movement by road between Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

The duo also held talks on various topics including a proposal to open a Saudi unit of electronic document centre (EDC) to handle mail fulfillment jobs and card personalisation.

They also discussed machinery and other equipment required for the implementation of the project.

The duo also discussed the marketing plan to implement new plans and increase co-operation in financial services, including money transfer and remittances through Wall Street Exchange.

Both sides expressed satisfaction over the plan for enhanced financial services. They also discussed a plan to offer the expertise of Emirates Marketing & Promotions (EMP) to Saudi Post.

DHL opens its EEMEA premises in Bahrain

DHL officially opened its Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (EEMEA) premises in Bahrain.

The move follows an extensive expansion of the sales team and the centralisation of resources in Bahrain to allow the company to be closer to its markets and enhance customer response times.

A team of specialists has relocated to Bahrain over the past year from across the DHL international network. Operations at the new office began on March 1 and the facility is now fully functional with a total of 32 staff.

“It is a great pleasure to have our sales and commercial teams for Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa centralised in Bahrain,” said Sales Director David Wilson.

“As the Middle East is the biggest area in our region, and Bahrain has held a strategic position at the centre of our business in the Middle East for 30 years, it is a natural move to consolidate operations here.

“With an excellent transport infrastructure and a high-quality living environment, this move is popular with all.”

He said EEMEA was one of the fastest growing regions for DHL, which had a 40 per cent market share.

DHL UAE switches to eco-friendly courier bags

DHL Express announced that the company will replace its regular plastic bags with new environmentally-friendly bags.

The new bags are not only stronger but are also fully reusable and recyclable and can degrade in as little as two years, leaving behind just natural elements: water, carbon dioxide and biomass. Conventional plastic bags, on the other hand, can take up to one thousand years to degrade; increasing landfill volume and contributing to the hazardous build-up of methane in landfill sites.

The switch to biodegradable bags is part of DHL’s worldwide initiative to reduce its environmental footprint across the 220 countries in which it operates. The move comes at a time when the most recent industry research indicates that the Middle East region and the UAE in particular, has an urgent need to focus on environmental sustainability.
