Emirates Post opens new post-office in Sharjah

Emirates Post opened new post-offices in Shajrah was inaugurated by Mr. Mohammed Bin Shaker Assistant Director General Zones Affairs.
The opening was attended by Mr. Ahmed Abdullah Al Haji Acting Director of 3rd Postal Zone, and Mr. Shouaib Ahmed Hassan Post Master of M’waileh Post Office and Mr. Sultan Saeed Sahooh Post Master Sharjah Main Post Office. The post office will be providing its services from 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m., Saturday to Thursday.

Emirates Post has now a network of 85 post offices across the country to provide innovative new services diversified its offering and established alliances with global postal corporations. Emirates Post’s diversified offering includes mail fulfillment, utility bill payment services, government services, Air Arabia reservations, direct marketing, banking, retail services and money exchange & remittances and other services.

Q-Post chairman Ali Mohamed al-Ali presenting a memento to Universal Postal Union

Vincenzo Rousseau, coordinator of the International Financial System (IFS) of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), has highlighted the necessity of introducing more professionalism in the postal services to make it more vibrant and appealing.

The UPU official was making a presentation on the introduction of e-remittances, at a session hosted by Q-Post. While hailing the efforts made by the Qatar Postal Corporation to revamp its services over the years, Rousseau expressed happiness at Q-Post’s plans to introduce e-remittances to its customers.

The official expressed satisfaction at the efforts made by Q-Post to improve the quality of its services and also at the efforts made to add professionalism to its work.

Highlighting the necessity of e-remittance services, Rousseau said speed, accuracy, safety and time saving were crucial in today’s world. Calling for the introduction of e remittance services, the UPU official said they were not only less expensive, but the services were also easy to be handled.

Rousseau also pointed out that the system was in practice in more than 60 countries all over the world.

Rousseau also reviewed the aspects of further co-operation between the UPU and Q-Post in the field of electronic services and training of its personnel. The UPU official said the strategy of the apex body was focused on assisting postal corporations all over, in particular in the introduction of new services. He said the UPU is working round the clock to reduce the digital gap between developed and developing countries and also to provide technical assistance to integrate postal services into the society.

FedEx expansion supports Bahrain growth

FedEx’s expansion in Bahrain highlights the country’s role as a trucking gateway to the Middle East.FedEx is catering to the growth of Bahrain’s logistics industry by increasing its presence in the Kingdom.

The company has expanded its facility at Bahrain International Airport, with a greater number of trucking routes introduced from the cargo centre and a drop-off point allowing customers to quickly deposit their shipments.

“This expansion is a direct result of growing demand for the fast and reliable services we provide across Bahrain and the GCC. It also signals the importance of Bahrain as a major trucking gateway for FedEx to neighbouring countries,” said Hamdi Osman, senior vice president, FedEx Middle East, Indian subcontinent and Africa.

The facility at Bahrain International Airport is located within the Global Logistics Services (GLS) bonded area. Approximately 75% of FedEx employees at the centre are Bahraini nationals and the company predicts this workforce will increase further following the expansion.

Emirates Post’s Training Centre conducts training course for Iraq Post employees

Emirates Post’s Training and Development Centre (TDC) recently conducted a special training course for employees of Iraq Post in Dubai. The program enabled the participants to understand postal operations, customer focus and use of technology in raising standards, among other topics.

The participants were also taken on field trips to Ramoul Sorting Centre, EDC and EMP, to get a first hand understanding of different operations and activities of Emirates Post.
“The Training and Development Centre has been continuously enhancing its standards.

Recently, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Universal Postal Union (UPU) to raise the standards further,” said Mrs. Wiaam Ghanem, Director of TDC and Acting Director of HR, Emirates Post.

The Training and Development Centre has been conducting training programs for postal employees from Arab countries, including Qatar and Oman. The Centre also conducts training courses for Emirates Post employees on a regular basis. In 2006, the Training Centre conducted training for 1,300 persons.

The courses offered by the Training Centre conform to UPU’s TRAINPOST program. Most courses incorporate the elements of ICDL and Profiles International.

FedEx receives environment award

FedEx has been selected as the winner of the Environmental Awareness Award for 2006-2007 by Dubai Cargo Village.

To mark the achievement, a cheque was presented to Hamdi Osman, FedEx’s senior vice president in the Middle East, Indian subcontinent and Africa during a special ceremony at the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel in Dubai. Presented by Ali Al Jallaf, vice president of Dubai Cargo Village, the prize was awarded to mark FedEx’s innovative recycling efforts.

“FedEx is committed to respecting and protecting the environment through outstanding environmental performance and efficient operations,” said Osman.

“We are modernising our aircraft fleet and integrating business practices that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The company also uses and strongly supports the development of alternate fuel vehicles,” he added.

The Environmental Awareness Award marks Dubai Cargo Village’s efforts to motivate companies to adopt best environment protection methods. Created under the patronage of His Highness. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Sayeed Al Maktoum, president of the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation and chairman of Emirates, the award is presented annually on International Environmental Day.
