DHL begins mid east fleet evaluation to meet growing demand

DHLs plans for the region include new air destinations, improved and new build facilities at regional airports and a total upgrade of DHL’s Middle East air-road network, fleet and services. The news comes as DHL Middle East revealed that in the past 18 months, its regional aircraft fleet has doubled in size from 7 to 14 aircraft. “The review will dovetail with our future needs and plans, which includes a US $10 million infrastructure investment phase currently under way,” said David Wild, General Manager, DHL UAE.

FedEx Express adds Iraq service to global network

Federal Express Corp. has added Iraq to its global network, offering door-to-door pick up and delivery for shipments in and out of the cities of Baghdad, Basra and Mosul. “Iraq has the potential to be one of the fastest growing economies and will require integrated end-to-end transportation solutions,” said Hamdi Osman, regional vice president, FedEx Middle East, Indian Sub-Continent and Africa.

McKinsey recommends opening Israeli mail market to competition in 2006-10

McKinsey and Co. has recommended to the Ministry of Communications to open Israel’s mail market to competition beginning in 2006 and finishing in 2010.
McKinsey predicts that the Israel Postal Authority will lose over NIS 500 million in revenue from opening the market to competition. McKinsey recommends opening the business mail market to competition on January 1, 2006, and gradually opening other sectors over a four-year period ending on January 1, 2010. A half-way station would be on January 1, 2008, and the private sector would be opened to competition on January 1, 2010.

Emirates Post and Somal Post sign agreement to establish money transfer and mail services

Emirates Post and Somal Post, the national postal corporation of Somalia, have signed an agreement to handle money transfer, letters and parcels between the UAE and Somalia. The new postal services between the two countries, which will be available from July 1, 2003, at 72 post offices of Emirates Post, will meet the requirements of the 75,000 Somalis residing in the UAE.
