Nightspeed, which has a branch on the Acorn Business Park in Nottingham, was named Parcel Carrier of the Year 2003 by its trade body, the Institute of Transport Management. The independently owned company, which has 22 depots throughout the UK, is based in Tipton, West Midlands. Research conducted by the institute looked at the past five years’ winners as well as new arrivals. Nightspeed was earmarked by Institute of Transport Management members as key to their distribution success.

A Black Country express parcels firm has delivered a pounds 600,000-plus deal to distribute high value motor parts for a major components supplier. Nightspeed, based in Tipton, won the major contract from Morley-based Vegem Limited, near Leeds.

Van drivers accused of cashing in on London charges

Parcel delivery companies were accused yesterday of “blatant profiteering” after announcing plans to raise prices in response to London’s congestion charge. Many leading couriers, including Securicor Omega Express, Parceline and Nightspeed, are to charge up to GBP1 extra per delivery in the restricted zone to cover the toll. The move was attacked by traders whose businesses depend on sending and receiving stock. They say that each van, which will pay GBP5 a day, will make enough deliveries in the zone to cover the extra expense with a healthy margin to spare.
