FAS is an ‘interagency’ initiative (i.e. they work with other government offices such as customs). They have also selected a number of industry partners which include CO, AA, Team Worldwide, DHL GF and Eagle.

Spanish Logistadis wins supply contract to 100 Local Post Offices

Logistadis SA, whole-selling subsidiary of Spanish logistic group Logista SA, won a tender to supply 100 offices of Spanish state-run postal services provider Correos with stationery and office materials, the company said on October 4, 2006.

Logistadis included in the offer a catalogue with paper and office materials, photography and IT items, in line with Correos’ diversification strategy aimed at increasing retail capacity.

At present, Logistadis (www.logista.es) trades over 700 products, including batteries, photography items, audio and video products, cards, guide books, books, stationery, etc. in Spain and Portugal.

Logista is a partner of Correos in offering logistics services in Logista platform. Weekly transport of ordered products is handled by Integra2, the industrial transport subsidiary of the group.

IDSY: Awarded USD1.1M Contract by United States Postal Service

I.D. Systems, Inc. (IDSY) announced that it has been awarded a development contract by the United States Postal Service (USPS) to integrate automated material flow management capabilities into I.D. Systems’ Wireless Asset Net(R) industrial vehicle management system. The contract is valued at approximately USD1.1 million, subject to certain terms and conditions, with work expected to commence immediately. The development project defined by the new contract was conceived to analyze certain productivity metrics of vehicle-related material handling, forecast periodic work loads, and dynamically optimize material movement in a distribution center environment.

Shift from traditional mail order channels to online continues

The Annual Multi-Channel Report from Abacus in the US highlights the growing importance of online for mail order companies.
While the report highlights the shift from traditional mail order, such as telephone, mail and fax, to online continues, the report says that the majority of households continue to order through the traditional channels, with these accounting for 55% of orders, down 4% from 2004.
At the same time, 25% of direct sales for multi-channel merchants were made via the web in 2005, compared with 20% in 2004. The proportion of dollars and transactions generated online continue to grow strongly at 19% and 17% respectively year on year.
It reveals a 14% increase in the number of transactions and total sales for multi-channel retailers in 2005, up from a 10% increase in 2004, further demonstrating the continued growth of the online channel in mail order.
According to Abacus, the latest increase was driven by the purchasing activity of 62m households making approximately 257m purchases via direct channels in 2005, worth USD31.3bn in sales.
