Italy postal service sector turnover up 7.1 Pct Y/Y Q4 2004

Italy’s postal service sector registered a 7. 1 pct year-on-year increase in turnover in the fourth quarter of 2004, the Italian National Statistics Institute ISTAT said on March 30, 2005.

The postal service sector posted an average year-on-year increase of 4. 8 pct in 2004.

The turnover of Italy’s air transport sector rose by 0. 4 pct in the fourth quarter of 2004, but fell by 2. 9 pct for the whole year.

The turnover of the Italian wholesale and intermediary trade sector increased by 2. 8 pct year-on-year in the last quarter of 2004.

The telecommunications sector registered a 4. 2 pct year-on-year increase in turnover and sales in the sea transport sector rose by 3. 8 pct year-on-year in the last three months of 2004.

Datamat consortium wins 54.6m Euro Poste Italiane contract

A consortium led by Italian information and communication technology (ICT) group Datamat has won a 54.6 mln euro (USD70.7 mln), 48-month contract to provide technology infrastructure services to Italian state-owned postal services company Poste Italiane, Datamat said.

IBM Italia, a subsidiary of U.S. IT group IBM, IBM Italia’s unit Sistemi Informativi S.p.A. and Finsiel, the data processing unit of Telecom Italia, are the other parties in the consortium.

Work to the value of 3.3 mln euro (USD4.3 mln) will be placed with Datamat.

Under the contract, the consortium will provide Poste Italiane with hardware, software and special infrastructure technology for financial and operational applications.

Poste Italiane renews labour agreement

Italian state-owned postal services company Poste Italiane has renewed the collective labour agreement of its employees for the period 2005 to 2006, it was reported on March 25, 2005.

The renewal of the contract envisages an increase of the salary with an average 80 euro (USD103. 28). The salary increase will be carried out in three tranches. The first tranche will be of 29 euro, payable in May 2005, while the second and third will be of 22 euro (USD28. 40) and 29 euro (USD37. 44), payable in March and October 2006, respectively.

The contract also includes a one-time bonus of 150 euro (USD193. 65).
