Read MorePostwatch is delighted that Royal Mail has agreed to reintroduce collection tabs to its postboxes. The tabs will be reinstated during the rest of 2004.
Postwatch began its campaign to have collection tabs reinstated in September 2002. Commenting on Royal Mail’s u-turn Peter Carr, Chairman of Postwatch, said: “This is good news for customers. We are delighted that our perseverance has paid off. We are very pleased that our campaign, which was supported by the industry’s regulator Postcomm, persuaded Royal Mail that collection tabs were necessary. Royal Mail deserve recognition for accepting they got it wrong and for taking steps to put things right.”
Stephen Timm’s announcement to the House details the improvements that Post Office Limited will be making to the urban post office closure programme.
Peter Carr, Chairman of Postwatch, commenting on the announcement said: ”Ministerial intervention was necessary to stop the closure programme going off the rails. Stephen Timms listened to our concerns and those of his Parliamentary colleagues and then took the appropriate action.”
Read MorePostwatch, the consumer watchdog for postal services, has published independent research, which shows that the final collection times shown on post boxes are unreliable. The watchdog wants the Regulator to amend Royal Mail’s licence to add a standard of service for timely collections.
Peter Carr, Chairman of Postwatch, commenting on the research findings said: ”Royal Mail should care that they are not providing information that their customers want. Removing the metal tabs system was an error. They should admit this and work on restoring them. Likewise the Royal Mail should own up to giving their customers unhelpful advice on the nearest later post box collection.”
