An Post close to selling off two non-core businesses

An Post is close to selling off two further subsidiaries as the company awaits a decision on a new price rise application. It is understood the company is involved in ongoing negotiations to sell two courier and distribution firms, and that one of these is JMC Vans Trans Limited. The company has two other courier operations, Waldermar Ltd and Transpost Limited. One of these is also likely to be sold. The purchase price for the two subsidiaries is likely to be well below the EUR80 million the company received for the two top-up companies it sold earlier this year to Alphyra. The decision to sell comes after the company conducted a review of its subsidiaries and associated undertakings. The company is anxious to exit from non-core businesses.

Irish An Post on the brink of securing productivity deal with employees

An Post is on the brink of a new productivity deal that will secure major savings in the company’s E38 million yearly overtime burden. An Post’s collection and delivery staff have been offered a 4 per cent productivity allowance and an increase in pay scales to be allocated as savings are achieved, in return for accepting flexible work practices, according to the deal seen by The Sunday Business Post. A 2.4 per cent pay increase would be introduced after 12 months provided that 46 per cent of savings are achieved, while a further 4.2 per cent would kick in after 24 months when a target 90 per cent of savings are achieved. Considerable progress has been made by the Labour Court in resolving a bitter dispute over An Post’s cost-cutting strategy and the non-delivery of pay increases due under national wage deal.

An Post consider cutting down Irish postal services

Irish postal services could be slashed under recommendations currently under consideration by the board of An Post. A report endorsed by the Labour Court proposes giving “low priority” to some postal routes and “collapsing” others in the event of staff absences. A technical group seeking a resolution to a row over wages at An Post wants to close some offices, limit the collection of undelivered mail to a three-hour period, cease the already minuscule number of Saturday deliveries, and prevent postmen from leaving early to do their rounds. The 63-page document, recommends stopping the sorting of mail on Saturdays and says collections on Sundays and public holidays should cease. It also suggests “commercial customers” should be “prioritised” for early deliveries.
