Palletways links hubs with IT and Trunking

Palletways passed a landmark last week as it linked its UK hub in Lichfield with its hub in Nijmegen, which serves Benelux, Germany and Denmark.
The near-identical computer systems of the two networks were plugged into each other and a scheduled trunking service started operating for the first time. One- and two- pallet consignments are the core traffic.

PalletFORCE enhances quality of network service with major investment in IT

PalletFORCE’s commitment to continuous improvement in quality has been underlined by a major investment in a state-of-the-art IT system, providing comprehensive real-time ‘track and trace’ for all of the Network’s Depots and their customers. The installation, designed by logistics specialist Trans-aXion, registers every pallet with a unique identification, which is used to trace deliveries throughout the distribution process. A dedicated section of Trans-aXion’s web-site allows customers to chart the progress of pallets in real-time from dispatch to delivery, the latter confirmed by electronic signature capture.

Business Post trading statement

The Board of Business Post announces that it now expects pre-tax profits for the full year to 31 March 2006 to be substantially below last year’s. This in part reflects a reduced expectation of normal trading for Express, the UK business-to-business parcel delivery service. The Board has also identified additional costs, amounting to approximately GBP3m in the current year, for supporting the franchise network, and has decided to make a GBP3.2m provision against amounts owed by certain franchises relating to prior years. Excluding the one-off provision, the year-on-year reduction in pre-tax profit to 31 March 2006 is expected to be around 10%.
