Russian Post gives stodgy money orders a boost

Russian Post says implementation of the CyberDengui or Cyber Money Order program has significantly cut the delivery time and cost of money orders.

The Cyber Money Order scheme has reportedly enabled the post to cut the fees for postal money orders by 35percent on average. With CyberDengui, money order forms and payment data are transmitted via computers.

Italy Elag and Russian Posts Sign 30 Mln Euro Contract

Italian system integrator Elsag, a subsidiary of Italian state-controlled defence group Finmeccanica, has won a 30 mln euro (USD36. 5 mln) contract from the Russian Posts, it was reported on June 28, 2004. Under the contract, Elsag will develop equipment and systems for an automatic mail processing centre in Moscow for high-speed culling, cancelling, coding and sorting of the mail. Elsag will also provide consulting and maintainance services for the automatic mail processing equipment.

French GeoPost acquires Russian Armadilo Business Posylka

GeoPost (Russia), a subsidiary of La Poste Group (France), acquired Armadilo Business Posylka (Russia), a subsidiary of Swedish Post (Sweden). Specialists notice it is a part of a larger deal proposed to strengthen pan-European operations of La Poste Group. It acquired also Yurtici Kargo (Turkey), Masterlink Express (Poland), BLS Lithuania (Lithuania), BLS Latvia (Latvia), and BLS Estonia (Estonia). Sales of the group of enterprises acquired exceeded euro35mil in 2003.

Russian Post to introduce automated mail sorting in 2006

State-owned Russian Post company plans to launch the first automated sorting facility in 2006, the company’s press service said in a statement. It will be based in the Moscow Region.

An agreement to build the facility has been reached with the local authorities, however the precise location has not been chosen yet.
