All 42,000 Russian post offices will be united into state-owned Post of Russia by Jan 1, 2004.

The first stage of the restructuring allows for uniting the post offices’ property, finances, transport network and personnel. In 2005 Post of Russia will be transformed into an open joint-stock company.

Regional Russian Post Offices to be merged into unitary enterprise

Since 01 January 2004 all the post offices of the Russian regions will be united into one unitary enterprise “Pochta Rossii”. Igor Syrtsov, Director General of the Federal Unitary Enterprise “Pochta Rossii” made this statement in Nizhny Novgorod at the special conference on Friday. It should be noted that the following officials participated in the conference: Viktor ratnikov, Deputy RF President Plenipotentiary to the Volga district, Andre Melnikov, Director General of the Federal Unitary Enterprise “Pochta Rossii”, Directors of divisions and departments of “Pochta Rossii” Enterprise, etc.

Half Russian Post offices to get internet access by 2010

Half of all post offices in Russia will offer customers access to the Internet as early as 2010. Within the framework of the Federal program “Electronic Russia” the number of such post offices will increase from 7% of their total number to 50%, or 19.2 thousand, according to Oleg Byakhov.
