DHL's Roger Crook named Chairman for the Caribbean and Latin American Express Delivery Conference

Roger Crook, CEO at DHL Express International Americas, assumed his role as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Caribbean and Latin American Express Delivery Conference (CLADEC).

Crook will replace another DHL Express International Americas’ executive, Rafael Couttolenc, who during his tenure at CLADEC, helped raise the organization’s profile among business and customs officials in Latin America and the Caribbean. He handed over his responsibilities to Roger Crook, in order to concentrate his efforts on the development of DHL’s strategic business plans in Brazil.

Roger Crook is a proven veteran in the logistics and express transportation industry. As CEO of DHL Express International Americas, Crook is responsible for managing DHL Express’ business activities in almost 50 countries and territories in the Americas, including Canada.

Brazil: ECT plans to have its own air postal services

ECT, the Brazilian state run postal service, is considering to operate its own air transportation services through leasing of aircraft, instead to outsourcing transportation. Actually this idea has been taking shape for quite some years and recently gained force with the involvement of ECT in several corruption scandals. A study was commissioned to Bain & Company, for R$2,3mil, on the feasibility to operate directly the 23 routes of the main service, and also a methodology for tender the leasing of aircraft. It is not discarded the adoption of a mixed own and outsourcing main transportation system, providing costs are cut without hindering the performance.

A recent auditing on ECT, following the political scandals, showed several irregular procedures.

Brazil Correios Posts Record $180.28 Mln Net Profit 2005

Brazilian state-run postal service company Correios recorded a record-high net profit of 400 mln Brazilian reais ($180.28 mln/143.8 mln euro) in 2005, up 30 pct year-on-year, the local media reported on June 29, 2006.

The company’s net revenue hit 8.7 bln reais ($3.921 bln/3.128 bln euro) in 2005, a 7.5 pct year-on-year increase.

DHL Global Mail enhances residential parcel service offering to Latin America

DHL Global Mail made improvements to its residential postal parcel delivery services to Latin America in response to dramatic increases in e-commerce and mail order shipping to the region. The Plantation, FL-based company said it has reduced delivery times and enhanced customer service capabilities by offering improved “track and trace” features. The track and trace capabilities allow e-commerce and other online retailers to check the status of their parcel via DHL Global Mail’s Web site. The product also includes customs clearance and returns notification.

DHL Mexico completes chain rehabilitation

DHL Mexico announced on May 18, 2006, that it had successfully completed the rehabilitation and expansion of its chain nationwide. The project required an investment of 38 mln Mexican pesos (USD3.4 mln/2.65 mln euro). DHL Mexico said it plans to invest an additional 13 mln pesos (USD1.17 mln/912,200 euro) during the remainder of the year to further improve its outlets. The investment will increase the effectiveness of DHL Mexico’s operations and will also improve the company’s customer relationship management.
