DHL Express expects revenue in Argentina to grow by 20 pct year-on-year to USD35 mln (29.7 mln euro) in 2005, DHL Express chief executive for Argentina, Sergio Del Casale, said on November 25, 2005. DHL Express projected 15 pct year-on-year revenue growth in Argentina in 2006, reflecting the strong performance in the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) sector. Argentina’s express delivery market totals some USD70 mln (59.5 mln euro) annually.

Federal Supreme Court could break Brazil’s post office company’s monopoly

The Federal Supreme Court (STF) could put an end to the judicial attempts of Brazil´s post office company, the Empresa Brasileira de Correios e Telégrafos (ECT), to maintain its monopoly on postal services during the plenary session tomorrow, when it resumes consideration of an appeal by the Brazilian Association of Distribution Companies (Abraed), which represents almost 50 associates. The services rendered by Correios and in some cases also by private companies move R$5 billion a year.

DHL Mexico to invest USD100 mln in five years

DHL Mexico a unit of German postal services group Deutsche Post AG, plans to invest some USD100 mln (82.4 mln euro) in the forthcoming five years, to strengthen its technology platform and customer care, under its expansion policy, the company’s director general Leticia Navarro said on October 26, 2005. DHL Mexico currently holds some 22 pct market share. The company will invest USD25 mln (20.6 mln euro) in 2005 to maintain its growth in the country, Navarro noted.

DHL expands operations in Brazil

DHL Express expanded its operations in Northeast and Centre-West of Brazil with the launch of new DHL service points there, it was reported on October 4, 2005.
The presence of DHL Express in these areas helped the company boost by 30 pct its turnover in Brazil. Besides the capital of the central-western state of Goias Goiania, the company started to offer its services also in the capitals of the central-western states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, namely Cuiaba and Campo Grande.

Dutch TNT Logistics eyes up to 25 Pct growth in Brazil

TNT Logistics, a unit of Dutch mail, express and logistics company TNT, plans to grow by between 20 pct and 25 pct in the next five years in Brazil, according to the company’s global chief of marketing and business development, Pierre Girardin. According to Girardin, Brazilian companies need to invest in technology to reduce their spending on logistics. Brazilian companies spent an average between 10 pct and 12 pct of the gross domestic product (GDP) on logistics, compared with between 8.0 pct and 10 pct of GDP in the United States and Europe.
