Spanish Azkar Plans 120 Mln Euro Capacity Investment by 2005

Spanish transport and packaging company Transportes Azkar (Azkar) plans to invest 120 mln euro ($138.43 mln) by 2005 to expand its capacity, it was reported on May 13, 2003.

The project will be presented for approval to the board of directors of the company in July 2003. The plan includes acquisition of land plots and construction of warehousing platforms.

Correos Spain posts gains

Spanish public-run postal service operator Correos announced Tuesday that its net profit amounted to – EUR 82.7 million in 2002, a three-fold increase on the – EUR 25.9 million it posted in 2001. Correos Chairman Víctor Calvo-Sotelo noted that the strong profit growth came in the midst of a progressive privatization of the group, with the Spanish state only contributing EUR 5.6 million last year. Revenue from its postal services activities increased 12.3 percent to EUR 1.65 billion, while costs rose 3.1 percent to EUR 1.45 billion.

Spanish Transportes Azkar To Co-Operate with German Rhenus

Spanish transport and packaging company Transportes Azkar, will co-operate with German transport company Rhenus, under a recently signed agreement between the Azkar’s logistics subsidiary Azkar Logistica and Rhenus, it was reported on April 3, 2003.

Rhenus will introduce operations in Spain and Portugal and Azkar will enter the northern European market under the agreement.
