Spanish postal money transfer proves popular

According to survey by the National Institute of Estadística (INE), around 14 pct of immigrants living in Spain, send money to their country of origin through Correos, the Spanish postal operator.
Through a network of more than 2,200 multiservice post offices in Spain, as well as online, international money orders have proved popular. Correos signed an agreement last August with the Congress of the UPU in Geneva, to link up with postal operators in Chile, Uruguay and Morocco to offer a new and affordable express international money order service, a service that could extend medium term to other countries of Latin America and the Maghreb.

The service allows for the transfer of money between each country in a fast and safe form, with payment to the addressee within around 15 minutes. In addition, Correos can allow the shipment of remittances more than 190 countries of the world.

Correos said the results of the Survey showed that it was providing a much-needed service for immigrants with respect to money transfer.

Reva Systems provides Correos RFID structure

Reva Systems announced that Correos Spain, has deployed Reva’s TAP appliances to enable RFID operations at an additional 37 mail processing centers. The implementation was designed and managed by Aida Centre, a systems integrator headquartered in Spain, who was instrumental in helping Correos define the production architecture and ultimately deploy the Reva-based production solution.

Correos is using RFID to track mail tagged with UHF RFID labels in order to monitor and manage mail delivery service nationwide. At each processing depot, dock doors equipped with RFID portals capture data as letters and parcels move in and out of the facility. Reva TAPs installed at each site control the portal readers and process the RFID tag data for location accuracy, and then deliver the relevant tag data to Correos’ enterprise backend systems.

Correos Spain offers pre-payment cards

Correos has distributed 105,000 pre-payment cards since June. The cards provide an easy and safe way to pay for trips and associated services, like hotel costs and car rental.

The new service, which was developed in collaboration with travel agency, Viajes Crisol, is being marketed as ‘TOURCORREOS’ through it’s post office network, thereby extending Spanish postal services and so it says, “turning post offices into multi-service centres”.

The pilot project was developed during the summer in some 60 offices, and it is predicted that by October around 2,200 post offices will be able to supply TOURCORREOS cards.

La Poste plans to buy Spain's Seur

La Poste decided to investigate buying a 52pct stake in Spanish express parcels company Seur by exercising its right to counter a rival bid, French media reported. This would give it a controlling holding of nearly 72pct in the company.

The decision follows the August 1 offer by British financial investor Doughty Hanson of EUR 520 million for a 52pct stake in Seur that a group of small shareholders put up for sale as a packet. The French postal operator, which already holds 19.6pct in Seur through its express holding GeoPost, has the right to match or outbid any offer for Seur shares under an existing agreement.

The French postal operator said in a statement that GeoPost had been authorised by La Poste’s supervisory board to exercise its right to pre-empt the other bidder and it would now make “deeper investigations” in the coming months, according to an AFP report. La Poste would take a decision on the final conditions for this potential acquisition based on these investigations, it added.
