BanCorreos lanches new products

BanCorreos – the new mark of banking services of CORREOS and Deutsche Bank- offers, from the 1st of March, other two new products of saving and investment: `Europe Deposit’ and `Monthly Deposit’.

The “Europe Deposit” is an 18 months deposit – from the 1st of June of 2007 to the 1st of December of 2008 – that guarantees a 100% of the initial capital and a minimum interest of 1%. Its total yield could be about a 16%, because the quantity of the paid interest will be calculated discounting of this 16% the difference between the best and the worse index of a basket of European indicators formed by the Eurostoxx 50, that includes the 50 greater companies of the zone euro; Dax, main German stock-exchange index; FTSE 100, main index of United Kingdom; Millrace 40, of France; and the MIB-30, of Italy.

On the other hand, the `Monthly Deposit’ is a traditional deposit (fixed term deposit) that guarantees the invested capital and offers a referenced yield in the Euribor, less 0.70%. The type of interest rate will be updated daily, in agreement with the evolution in market of the Euribor. It represents a conservative and simple option of short term investments, because in a month the client recovers the invested amount plus the interests.

Correos implements the ‘Mercury' track & trace system

Correos has established its new information system, ‘Mercury’. Based on ‘Track & Trace’ technology, the new system allows Correos to track the 220 million registered shipments it manages every year.
‘Mercury’ allows Correos’ customers to check the status of any shipments sent. Customers can check their shipment status online or by contacting either the call centre or the post office involved. Correos customers will soon be able to access their shipping information via mobile phone.

‘Mercury’ is a part of the Integra Plan, an initiative that encompasses all the projects and development plans promoted by Correos in order to equip itself with the most modern and efficient TIC, information technology and communications equipment and strategies.

The new application, uses self-adhesive bar coded labels and radio frequency identification tags to provide information on the shipment route. This gives shippers precise information allowing staff to pin point the exact location of any item as it is processed.

USPS upgrades international products with alliance partners

The US Postal Service (USPS) aims to grow its international business with guaranteed products offered through the ‘Kahala Postal Group’ (KPG) of selected international postal operators, a top official told CEP-Research in an interview. Royal Mail and Spain’s Correos have just agreed to join the six-strong group.

The USPS is putting a stronger focus on its international business than in the past, and aims to target small US firms for their international express mail and deferred parcel business, Paul Vogel, managing director global business and senior vice president, said on the sidelines of this week’s World Mail & Express Logistics Middle East, Africa & South Asia conference in Dubai. He took charge of the newly-created Global Business unit in summer 2006.

Britain’s Royal Mail and Spain’s Correos have just agreed to join the KPG alliance, Vogel said. The fundamental aim was to expand the alliance to other postal operators in Europe and elsewhere as they upgraded their performance standards to be able to provide guaranteed services. “ I believe most Posts can improve their service,” Vogel commented. But he added: “If a post cannot promise visibility and service, then I need an alternative.”

Although the Kahala members had a reasonably balanced flow of items, there were no plans to invest in any postal air network, Vogel stressed. USPS has a long-term agreement with FedEx for its international uplift, and uses both FedEx and UPS alongside commercial airlines within the USA.
