Correos adds ONO to the bill payment services available at its offices

As of today the ONO bill payment service for bills not paid by direct debit is available throughout CORREOS’ network of more than 2,000 computerised offices all over Spain

Under the agreement ONO, a landline telephone, internet and cable television provider with more than 1.9 million customers, joins the many businesses and companies that have put their trust in CORREOS to collect payment of their bills.

The bill payment service provided by CORREOS offers citizens advantages such as the convenience of always finding post office nearby, thanks to the size of the network, as well as their ample opening hours – from 8:30 am until 2:30 pm in offices with morning opening hours and from 8:30 am until 8:30 pm in those offices that are open all day.Offices located in shopping centres provide this service during the same opening hours as the centre, including the public holidays on which the centre is open.

Spanish Correos To Invest 14.2 Mln Euro To Renew Fleet

Spanish state-run postal services provider Correos plans to invest 14.2 mln euro (USD 18.2 mln) to buy 1,945 new vehicles in order to renew and increase its fleet, the company said on August 2, 2006.
Of the total, 1.9 mln euro (USD 2.4 mln) will be allocated for 28 trucks of Italian carmaker Iveco and French Renault with a capacity to transport 12 to 14 tonnes. Correos will also buy 320 delivery vans, transporting between 900 kg and 1.2 tonnes, and 315 vans with up to 600 kg cargo capacity.
The company will purchase 1,225 motorcycles of Italian motorcycle manufacturer Piaggio-Vespa-Gilera as well.
Correos targets to renew by 16 pct its total fleet, consisting of some 12,000 vehicles. After the acquisitions, they will be used for an average of less than six years.

9 European Postal Service Providers Call for Caution in the 2009 Postal Service

Following the publication of the PWC study on the “Impact on Universal Service of the Full Market Accomplishment of the Postal Internal Market in 2009”, the postal operators of Belgium, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland and Spain, which account for over 50% of the Community population, express their concern about the study outcomes and plead the European Commission for a balanced approach when drawing up future postal legislation. At the beginning of this month of July, the European Commission published a study undertaken at its request by PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) in order to assess, in each member State, the impact on the universal postal provision of a full liberalisation in 2009. As stated by the postal Directive 2002/39/EC, based on the conclusions of this study, the Commission shall submit by 31 December 2006 “a report to the European Parliament and the Council accompanied by a proposal confirming, if appropriate, the date of 2009 for the full accomplishment of the postal internal market or determining any other step in the light of the study’s conclusions”.

José Antonio Amelibia Núñez, new Sales Manager of Correos

José Antonio Amelibia Núñez is the new Sales and Marketing Director of CORREOS, a position he took up on 17 July after being appointed by the president of the Sociedad Estatal Correos y Telégrafos, S.A., José Damián Santiago Martín.

Over nearly 30 years of professional career in the postal company, José Antonio Amelibia has held various positions, particularly in his homeland, the Basque Country, where he was Head of Distribution in San Sebastian, Head of Operations in Guipuzcoa and the Area Director of Zone Three (the Basque Country, La Rioja and Navarra), a post he has held from March 2004 until the present.

Amelibia Núñez, 46, is married with 2 children. She has worked in CORREOS since 1977 and has a degree in Psychology from the UNED; she also has training in economy and finance Management and Marketing as well as in internal Communication.
