Spanish postal services move into the internet era

The Spanish postal service (Correos) has recently opened up 4000 new ‘free access’ points to its virtual offices, with over 30000 terminals spread across Spain. Developed in co-operation with the state agency Red.es, this initiative is intended to further promote the information society in Spain. The new postal service network, called ‘Telecentros’, will make it possible for more than 5 million citizens to access on-line postal services. The project is part of the postal services ‘Accessibility Plan’ which is being implemented progressively by Correos.

Spanish Unipost appoints General Director

Spanish private postal services provider Unipost appointed Pablo Raventos general director, replacing Alejandro Silva Ramos, who will be Unipost vice president, the company said on March 14, 2006. Both Raventos and Silva are among Unipost founders.

Spanish courier firm Tourline Express grows 30% in 2005

Tourline Express, the Spanish courier firm bought by the Portuguese post office Correios last year, grew 30 per cent in 2005. It was the third year in a row that the Barcelona-based firm had grown at such a rate.

Tourline Express said in a statement that it increased revenues by 29.6 per cent to €105 million while its volumes rose 23 per cent to 6.1 million items. Growth was driven by the company’s geographical expansion across Spain and Portugal, it said. Tourline Express opened 37 new branches, taking its network to 284 franchise outlets.

DHL acquires Disfast in Spain

DHL acquired the Spanish logistics group Disfast on December 5, 2005. Founded in 1990, Disfast is a small logistics company in the area of Madrid with a strong presence in the fashion industry at Madrid region. Specialized in the distribution of hanging garments mainly in and around Madrid, Disfast complements DHL’s domestic activities in Spain. The company has estimated revenue of 8 million euros for 2006, and serves over 200 customers with roughly 50 employees.

TNT extends Spanish logistics contract with Italian Pirelli

TNT extended its logistics contract with Italian tire maker Pirelli & Co SpA in Spain for three years, TNT said on February 14, 2006. Financial details were not available. Under the contract, initially signed four years ago, TNT’s Spanish logistics unit will be responsible for distribution of tires to various countries from its warehouse in Manresa and two national distribution centres near Madrid and Barcelona.
