Spain MRW Launches Two Services in Portugal

Spanish express courier MRW has launched two new services on the Portuguese market, it was reported on January 12, 2005.

The services are namely limitrofe – for urgent express deliveries within the limits of Portugal, and 48 horas Espanha – for express deliveries to Spain. According to MRW the two new services will mark the company’s leading position in terms of urgent deliveries on the Iberian Peninsula market.

Spanish Competition Court imposes 78.8 Mln Euro fines in 2004

Spanish competition court Tribunal de Defensa de la Competencia (TDC) imposed 78.8 mln euro (USD103.3 mln) fines in 2004, a seven fold year-on-year increase, it was reported on January 12, 2005. Fines were imposed on 33 companies, three business associations, one professional organisation, and one fishermen association breaching the competition rules in Spain. The second largest fine of 15 mln euro (USD19.7 mln) was imposed on state-run postal services provider Sociedad Estatal Correos y Telegrafos SA (Correos).

Correos signs agreement with Telefonica

Spanish postal services operator, Correos, has signed an agreement with Telefonica, the Spanish telecommunications group. Under the terms of the agreement, Correos will accept payment Telefonica customers at all 1,857 of its computerised branches throughout Spain.

Azkar raises FY 2004 sales growth target to 12-13 pct vs previous 10

Transportes Azkar SA said it has raised its full-year 2004 sales growth target to 12-13 pct from 10 pct previously. In a presentation to analysts, Azkar also said it has increased its full-year investment target to 25-30 mln eur from 20-25 mln previously. It reiterated its EBITDA growth target of 12-14 pct, noting that pretax profit growth is expected to decline 2-5 pct, mainly due to the absence of one-time gains compared with 2003. The company also reiterated its 8 pct growth target for routes.
