The International AddressGuide – now published with eastern European countries

The cross-border sourcing of addresses for direct mailing is becoming easier for eastern European countries: the new edition of the International AddressGuide from Swiss Post International now also includes, alongside the existing 15 countries in western Europe, new entries for Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia. The AddressGuide lists 500 providers from 20 countries and describes what they have to offer, with key figures such as the number of company addresses, decision-makers, private addresses, selection criteria, and the extent of their special address databases. To help users evaluate potential suppliers, the guide provides information such as year of establishment and number of employees. For each country, it also contains an outline of the address market with detailed information on prices, data protection, return rates, address formats and the correct salutations.

Spanish DHL Iberia Invests 3.82 Mln Euro in Facilities in Logrono

DHL Iberia, the Spanish subsidiary of German express mail delivery group DHL, a unit of German postal service operator Deutsche Post, invested 3.8 mln euro (USD4.66 mln) to build facilities in Logrono, La Rioja region, northeastern Spain, DHL Iberia said on October 5, 2004. The facilities, with a total area of 6,000 sq m, in the La Portalada II industrial park, will start operations on October 6, 2004. The facilities consist of a 3,000 sq m of transports and distribution premises, a 1,000 sq m logistics platform and offices. The new installations will allow the company to unify its air and land transports activities in the region.

Deutsche Post buys stake in Spanish Unipost

Deutsche Post said on Tuesday it had acquired a 38-percent stake in the private Spanish delivery service Unipost for an undisclosed sum. The German giant also had the option to icrease its stake in Barcelona-based Unipost at a later date, a company spokesman said, confirming a corresponding report published in the daily Die Welt. Unipost, formed from the merger of a number of small companies, generated sales of 64 million euros (79 million dollars) last year and is targeting sales of 200 million euros by 2007.

Four Spanish savings banks raise joint Azkar stake to 5 pct

Savings banks Sa Nostra, Caja Canarias, Caja Sur and Caja Extremadura have increased their joint stake in Transportes Azkar SA to 5 pct from a previous 3, according to a filing with stock market regulator CNMV.

The additional shares were acquired in the stock market by the savings banks’ investment vehicle Zoco Inversiones.

Basque savings bank BBK and Caja de Ahorros de Galicia also each hold 5 pct of Azkar.

Spanish Courier Sector Eyes 5.8 Bln Euro Turnover 2004

Spanish courier service sector forecasts a turnover of a total 5.8 bln euro ($7.1 bln) for 2004, up 10.9 pct year-on-year, Spanish consultancy DBK said on September 14, 2004.

Spain’s courier sector eyes a 9.0 pct year-on-year increase in turnover to 6.3 bln euro ($7.7 bln) in 2005.

The turnover increase in both 2004 and 2005 will be partly due to the improved consumer confidence in delivery services.

DBK has also detected a tendency of mergers between courier firms in Spain, targeted at strengthening of the companies’ positions on the domestic market, at entering new markets or at gaining bigger clients and starting complementary services.
