IT services provider Indra has landed a USD1.23 million one-year contract from Correos, the Spanish post office, to maintain and support the post’s IRIS system.

Correos uses IRIS to manage the information network system of various branch offices. It handles both front-office customer care and back-office services such as accounting and statistics. Correos considers IRIS critical to its commercial and customer services as well as to its invoicing and business reporting.

Spain’s around 200 privately owned postal service operators have seen their overall market share plummet from 15 per cent to 8 per cent during the last six years, according to Asempre, the federation of private Spanish postal service operators. At the same time, Correos, Spain’s state-controlled postal service operator, has increased its market share to 92 per cent.

The Spanish government have appointed the director of the property division of tobacco group Altadis, Damian Santiago Martin, the new chairman of Spanish postal service provider Correos. Mr Santiago Martin replaces Victor Calvo-Sotelo, who has resigned from the company after 18 months there.
