Lockheed Martin selected to upgrade Sweden’s mail processing

Posten Sverige AB, Sweden’s national postal service, has selected Lockheed Martin to upgrade its address recognition technology and mail automation capabilities for processing the nation’s letter mail. The upgraded programme will create a common recognition platform to consolidate automated sorting systems at Swedish national processing centers. In addition, it will improve the recognition technology used to process and deliver letter mail. Lockheed Martin will also integrate more than 70 legacy sorting machines to further streamline and improve automated letter sorting capabilities across the country. This new system is similar to the highly efficient Lockheed Martin-developed address interpretation system now in place at the United Kingdom’s Royal Mail.

Sweden Post to equip drivers with Intermec handheld computers

Sweden Post, which handles 20 million pieces of mail daily, is to equip its drivers with interactive handheld computers from Intermec Technologies Corp. to provide real-time data capture during deliveries. The agreement includes 2,500 Intermec 761 ruggedised handheld computers and accessories, as well as vehicle-docking stations, chargers and holsters, and a comprehensive service and support package.

TNT Logistics secures MAN Nutzfahrzeuge contract for spare parts logistics

TNT Logistics Central & Eastern Europe is the new logistics partner for the pan-European spare parts logistics of MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG, Europe’s leading manufacturer of commercial vehicles. As part of the European Logistics Concept, MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG is restructuring its entire European spare parts logistics operation. The future distribution of fast moving goods will occur through six regional warehouses (ELCs). TNT Logistics will be responsible for the development and operation of the three ELCs in Italy, the UK and Northern Germany as well as the transport of spare parts in Italy, the UK, Northern Germany, Scandinavia, Poland, the Netherlands and Belgium. The transport services essentially comprise overnight delivery of urgent orders and same-day deliveries. The overall concept will accelerate the delivery of spare parts to the European workshops and reduce the MAN Group’s stocks.
