Swedish Postal Service resumes checking postage

The Swedish Postal Service has reportedly revealed that in the mid-1990s it had, as a cost-cutting measure, stopped checking to see if there was enough postage on letters and packages, but had restored the function in 2003.

The postage checks since then had reportedly resulted in some USD4m in what would have been lost revenues, and in 2004 the postal service expects to recover more than USD8m in due postage.

Sweden Post achieves highest service score for overnight-committed mail

Sweden Post has achieved the highest service score for overnight-committed mail for the fourth consecutive year. Every day, Sweden’s postal service handles over 20 million pieces of mail. A 96.1 percent on-time delivery service performance score puts Sweden Post atop the world rankings.

In a comparison of various countries’ on-time delivery performance statistics, Sweden Post is number one when it comes to domestic overnight-committed mail. First-Class Mail delivery performance is measured externally and independently by IBM’s Business Consulting Services unit. Similar measurements are conducted around the world.

For the past four years Sweden Post has clinched the top position in a worldwide comparison of First-Class Mail delivery performance. In fact, the company’s 2003 score exceeded its ambitious target of 96 percent.

President and CEO Erik Olsson commented: “The men and women of Sweden Post have every reason to be proud. In light of Sweden’s geography and widely dispersed population, this is a huge achievement.”

The benchmark delivery performance score for overnight-committed mail set by the Post and Telecom Agency, the authority that monitors the electronic communications and post sectors, is 85 percent. The same benchmark also applies to postal service providers in the European Union countries.

Reliable parcel delivery

Sweden Post also improved its delivery performance for DPD Företagspaket 16.00, Economy Mail and Unaddressed Direct Mail. In 2003 Sweden Post earned an on-time delivery score for DPD Företagspaket 16:00 of nearly 98 percent, close to a one-point increase compared to last year.
