Sweden’s Posten AB heading for a serious financial crisis

The new CEO of Sweden’s Posten AB, Mr Börge Österholm, believes that his company is heading for a serious financial crisis. ‘We haven’t got to the crisis stage yet, but unless we do something, we will’, one of Sweden’s leading papers, ‚Svenska Dagbladet’ (4.2) quotes Mr Österholm. The paper further reports that the post would have to cope with considerable losses, and unless this trend was broken the company would find itself bankrupt within the next two years.

Optimail increases turnover by more than 44%

The Swedish Optimail increased its turnover by more than 44% to approx. 26.6m
euros during the financial year 2002. According to the daily ‘Dagens Industri’ (27.1) Optimail will be able to show a profit of around 2.9m euros for the entire financial year (2001: 119.000 euros).

DPD & Fedex to move into German domestic market

Parcel delivery firm, Deutscher Paketdienst (DPD) is to team up with FedEx to move into the international arena and take on Deutsche Post in the German Domestic Market.
DPD, a subsidiary of France’s La Poste is the second largest delivery service provider in Germany after Deutsche Post and through its collaboration with FedEx will now compete in the express deliveries sector.

Lennart Grabe steps down from Posten

Posten’s President and CEO, Lennart Grabe, steps down from his post today. Börge Österholm, formerly Executive Vice President of Posten, will serve as interim President and CEO. An executive search is underway to identify his successor. Former President and CEO of Telia, Marianne Nivert, will strengthen Posten’s board of directors.
