FedEx to expand Thailand van fleet

Federal Express Corp plans to expand its Thai van fleet next year to cope with growing demand. The expansion will be supported by the export sector, which has sizeable potential for growth, said Clifton Chua, the global courier’s managing director for Thailand, Indochina and the Philippines. FedEx currently operates 41 vans and 44 motorcycles in Thailand, as well as 12 flights per day out of Bangkok International Airport.

TNT ready to up Thai services

TNT Thailand aims to expand its domestic network to apply same-day delivery services nationwide after achieving its five-year growth target two years ahead of schedule, said Winfried Kiesbueye, country general manager.

It currently offers same-day service for Greater Bangkok and next-day service upcountry. “Our services will be applied as the same-day service around the country by the middle of next year.”To facilitate that goal, TNT is in the process of establishing four more offices in Phuket, Nakhon Sawan, Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani. It now has 11 offices and 14 agents countrywide.

FedEx announces plans for expansion in China

As part of its continued expansion in Asia, FedEx Express, a major express transportation company in the world, announced here Friday its plans to create a separate, specific division in Chinese mainland with its regional center in Shanghai.

The new regional structure will enable the company to be more focused on and responsive to the needs of its customers in Chinese mainland, said David L. Cunningham, Jr., vice-president of Asia Pacific Division for FedEx.

Krung Thai Bank seeks control of Thailand Post

Krung Thai Bank PLC plans to submit proposals to the Information and Communications Technology Ministry next month regarding the purchase of a major stake in Thailand Post, the Bangkok Post reported.

The bank’s president Viroj Nualkhair said the bank believes that the investment would prove beneficial to both sides.

The bank and its subsidiary, Krungthai Card, would both look to hold shares together with a strategic partner, possibly an overseas postal service company.
