TNT opens key network link in Vietnam’s hi-tech hub

The new facility is part of a EUR 1 million investment in developments in the city, which includes TNT’s new Hanoi office due to open in the fourth quarter of this year.
Onno Boots, regional managing director, TNT Southeast Asia, said: “As Vietnam is strategically located as the link between China and Southeast Asia on our Asia Road Network, the completion of the TNT International & Domestic Operations Centre, North in Hanoi is an integral part of TNT’s growth strategy in the region.”
He added that more than 40 pct of volumes to and from TNT Vietnam will pass through the new centre, and growth is expected to be in the high double-digit range for the next five years as it facilitates seamless integration between TNT’s air and road networks.
Shipments passing through Vietnam will be consolidated and processed at the TNT International & Domestic Operations Centre in Hanoi before making its way northwards to China and southwards to Singapore via the Asia Road Network for subsequent airlift to Europe and China respectively, using TNT’s Boeing 747-400 ERF that flies between Singapore, Shanghai and Liege three times a week.
Boots said that the new facility gives TNT the capacity to handle four times its current load of both international and domestic freight under one roof while leveraging the Asia Road Network.
This is the third facility to be opened within three months, following TNT’s new international & domestic road hub in Bangkok, Thailand and the Singapore Country Depot.

UPS Asia Business Monitor 2008:

Even though small and medium-sized business leaders in Asia Pacific view their Thai counterparts as less competitive than last year, Thai business leaders are confident about their own growth prospects. According to the UPS Asia Business Monitor 2008, optimism remains strong with 60 percent of Thai small-to-medium enterprises, or SMEs, expecting to do better than they did last year and 52 percent expecting an increase in their workforce.

According to the survey, the greatest growth opportunities are found in Manufacturing, Automotive and Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing. However, the most lacking areas are in government support, the ability to innovate and access to overseas markets.
Also lacking for the SMEs is the use of effective supply chain management in their businesses. Fifty percent of the Thai SMEs surveyed are either under-utilising, neglecting or not using supply chain management in their business.
The UPS ABM 2008 identified a critical shift in the top three business concerns of Thai SME leaders. In 2007, Thai SMEs were most concerned with the quality of products and services. TNT starts the only scheduled road services between China and Southeast Asia

TNT announced the start of the only scheduled road services between China and five countries of Southeast Asia, using its Asia Road Network. From China, international road services to Southeast Asia will first be available from the South of the country. In a second step, TNT will link the Asia Road Network to its Chinese domestic network to offer customers seamless road connections from many parts of China to Southeast Asia.
The Asia Road Network connects to TNT’s international express network at Nanning, the capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province.
Introduced at the end of 2005, TNT’s Asia Road Network is a fast, reliable, and secure integrated road network linking China with over 125 cities across 5,000 km in Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Laos. It features fully inclusive secure, door-to-door, day-definite distribution service with complete track and trace capabilities, supported by a 24/7 real-time GPS tracking system. The trucks depart on schedule like trains, leaving to arrive at one of TNT’s hubs and depots, in time for parcels to be unloaded, sorted, and shipped out again or delivered locally.
Due to China’s geographical proximity and close business links, Vietnam, in particular, will benefit from TNT’s completed Asia Road Network. As Vietnam’s economy continues to grow, bilateral trade volume between both countries is on the increase and offers strong business opportunities for TNT.
