Hungarian customers demand more complex delivery solutions

Though competition has intensified, the delivery volume of international parcel services has increased in recent years, industry experts said last week. Customers, however, are requiring complex, more sophisticated services, and service providers are expected to move to meet these requirements. “Though the core business is still small parcel delivery, no international delivery company can survive on the exclusive provision of traditional courier service-type solutions,” said Zoltán Bándli, business development manager at UPS Hungary Kft. According to Bándli, customers want more – something along the lines of a one-stop service.

TNT UK wins contract with Universal Music

TNT has won a GBP2.5m contract with Universal Music Operations Ltd to make overnight deliveries to independent retailers and major High Street chains stocking music and film CDs and DVDs. The Universal contract follows a successful trial period where TNT executed deliveries for Universal’s Scottish retail network in the second half of 2005. TNT’s nationwide distribution of the CDs and DVDs start in February, when more than 500,000 items will be dispatched to High Street names including HMV, Matalan, WH Smith and independent retailers every week.

TNT Express Netherlands awarded ISO14001 accreditation

TNT Express today announced that its Netherlands operations has been awarded the ISO14001 accreditation for its efforts to reduce environmental damage, by minimising harmful CO2 emissions and moderating fuel consumption and wastage. The standard – which has been obtained by a number of TNT locations – was achieved by implementing a management system which focuses on the environmental aspects of the company’s operations. The upgrading of TNT’s Euro III compliant vehicles to a fleet that meets the more stringent Euro IV emission regulations was a key part of the programme. This will be further refined during 2006 when TNT introduces vehicles that comply with the Euro V emission standards, as part of the existing stock is due for replacement.
