Sodexi has developed a system for total electronic processing of air cargo shipments

In 2008, a new IT procedure will be introduced to replace the old paper based administration for exports. The system will be capable of running the entire transport process – from the original order through to delivery of goods.

The latest version of the Sodexi-designed system, entitled DELTA X, allows the full treatment of the process from handling, through automatic Customs clearance to final delivery.

Part of the Air France cargo network, Sodexi provides fast, efficient handling of express cargo at its computer-controlled airside facility at Paris CDG airport. Apart from traffic emanating from the Air France network, the company handles the Equation service for all Skyteam members, and handles many other airlines as well as FedEx, TNT, DHL, Chronopost and other specialist express forwarders.

TNT launches new portfolio of morning delivery services

TNT announces the launch of its new service portfolio to offer customers an extended range of standardized international and domestic services across the globe. Adding two new time-guaranteed services – ’10:00 Express’ and ’12:00 Economy Express’ – to the existing ‘9:00 Express’ and ’12:00 Express’, TNT puts a strong emphasis on morning deliveries and now offers more morning delivery services than any of its competitors. The ’12:00 Economy Express’ in particular is an industry first, providing customers with a service that is both economical and time guaranteed. The new service portfolio is launched globally and will be operational from September 17.

With the new offering, TNT recognizes a universal customer need for guaranteed morning delivery, more choice of services and less complexity through service alignment. TNT conducted extensive research involving 7,500 express service users in key markets around the world. The results demonstrate that, apart from speed, weight and coverage capabilities, customers expect convenience, reliability and control from their provider of express services. TNT’s new range of services directly answers these requirements.

Drawing on TNT’s fully integrated air and road network infrastructure, the new service portfolio offers greater geographical coverage for deliveries by 9:00, 10:00 and 12:00 to more cities and business locations worldwide than before.

TNT is launching an international communications campaign to support its new portfolio. Using the theme ‘Good Morning!’, it combines print and outdoor advertising, viral and direct marketing, online and internal communications.

TNT not planning to cut thousands of jobs

TNT NV said it has no intention of cutting more than the 6,500-7,000 jobs previously announced as part of its cost-cutting program.

TNT spokesman Pieter Schaffels said that media reports claiming TNT may cut thousands of additional jobs do not reflect its intention with regard to its savings plan and upcoming labor talks.

‘We already made it clear in April that we see two scenarios for reaching our target of 300 mln eur in savings,’ spokesman Pieter Schaffels said.

He said TNT still prefers the first scenario, in which job losses are capped at 6,500-7,000 while collective labor agreements are adjusted for additional cost savings. The company has said that in this scenario, it will minimize forced lay-offs.

However, if agreements cannot be reached with unions regarding wages, overtime pay, pension costs and other issues, Schaeffels confirmed that a second scenario could result in up to 11,000 job losses.

‘That is not our preference,’ the spokesman said, adding that it is premature to discuss job losses ahead of key negotiations with unions, noting that ‘to an extent, the ball is in the unions’ court’.

Dutch TNT says up to 11,000 layoffs possible

TNT NV said on Saturday it may have to lay off up to 11,000 workers due to rising competition in its home market, where the company is set to lose its remaining monopoly from next year.

The company said in April it will seek to freeze wages and cut up to 7,000 jobs to help lower costs by 300 million euros (USD 413 million) by 2015, but now seems to feel harsher measures will be needed to remain competitive.

“We may have to go as far as 10,000 or 11,000 redundancies,” Chief Executive Peter Bakker told Reuters in an interview.

Competitive pressures are rising in Europe. The European Parliament voted in June to delay until 2011 a plan to open its 88 billion euro postal market to full competition, a move that unions say will lead to job losses and diminished service quality in rural areas.

“There is a choice to aggressively cut costs and lay off a large number of people,” said Bakker, who was in Dalian, China for the World Economic Forum.

“Or ask existing employees to take a wage freeze over a number of years,” he said. “It’s a horrible choice to make.”

TNT is one of the Netherlands largest employers with about 59,000 staff
