TNT Post acquires stake in Nordwest-Mail GmbH (CITIPOST Bremen)

TNT Post is expanding its household coverage in Germany by acquiring a 25.1 percent stake in regional mail delivery company Nordwest-Mail GmbH in Bremen (CITIPOST Bremen). This stake in CITIPOST will guarantee TNT Post access to more than 400,000 households in the Greater Bremen Area, as well as to the complete network of the CITIPOST alliance, the largest alternative mail delivery service in north-west Germany. Under the name “CITIPOST”, the Nordwest-Mail GmbH has been a regional mail delivery enterprise in the Greater Bremen Area since 2005.

For its part, CITIPOST Bremen is benefiting from the strategic partnership by gaining access to TNT Post’s nationwide and international networks and will now be able to offer its business clients an even broader range of mail delivery services.

Nordwest-Mail GmbH is an affiliate of the Bremer Tageszeitungen AG. By securing a holding in Nordwest-Mail GmbH, TNT Post is establishing a partnership with yet another German publishing house. Frusch explains: “A number of newspaper publishers operate its own mail delivery companies in the regional mail delivery sector, thus making optimal use of their efficient, long-established structures for newspaper distribution. Setting up joint ventures and cooperative projects with publishing firms is a pivotal element in our network development strategy.” Recently TNT Post announced a strategic partnership with the Ippen Publishing Group and Süddeutscher Verlag.

The holding in Nordwest-Mail GmbH is subject to approval by the antitrust authorities.

Agreement in principle between TNT and unions on collective agreement on employment mobility

TNT and the unions (ABVAKABO FNV, CNV Publieke Zaak, BVPP and VPP) today reached agreement in principle on a new collective agreement on employment mobility. This new employment mobility agreement will make it possible to deal with the consequences of the impending reorganisations in a socially responsible manner.

The collective agreement on mobility applies to some 60,000 TNT employees in the Netherlands and runs until 1 January 2011. The unions intend presenting the agreement to their members with a recommendation that they approve it.

The collective agreement on mobility comprises measures to minimise the need for redundancies. The measures focus, for example, on encouraging mobility from one job to another and providing full assistance to employees looking for a job outside the TNT organisation. TNT’s Mobility department will play a major role in all this.

TNT Express discusses strategy to combat climate change

Speaking at the CSR Summit in Dubai, Mike Patrick, Director of CSR, TNT Express said that there is a need for regional corporations to implement and integrate a sustainable and environmental stewardship program into their CSR strategy to combat climate change, AME Info reports.

Patrick said that the B2B delivery company’s main target is to reduce CO2 emissions by developing eco-friendly products, vehicles and buildings, cutting down on business travel by 30 percent, and developing a sustainable aviation strategy.

TNT has already, according to Patrick, taken steps to implement the International Environmental Management certificate, ISO 14001, in each of its locations by end of 2007, which in some countries has already reduced paper costs by 80 percent, electricity costs by 15 percent and recycling costs by 10 percent.

Swiss Post to cut greenhouse gas emissions

Together with Europe’s largest postal operators, Swiss Post is taking part in the programme launched by the umbrella organization PostEurop to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

The goal of this initiative is to cut emissions of CO2, the most important greenhouse gas emitted by the participating organizations, by 10 percent over the next five years. Its involvement in the programme signals Swiss Post’s rigorous continuation of the environmental policy it launched in 1996. Between 2000 and 2005, it cut its CO2 emissions by 9 percent and is therefore already close to achieving the Kyoto Protocol’s targets for 2010.

Swiss Post is taking part in PostEurop’s programme to reduce greenhouse gases.

PostEurop is the association of the 43 European universal-service postal operators. The initiative is based on the voluntary participation of PostEurop members and currently enjoys the support of nine postal operators, including Deutsche Post World Net, La Poste Group (France), TNT (Netherlands), and De Post/La Poste (Belgium), with further postal operators expected to follow suit by the end of the year.

They have undertaken to reduce their CO2 emissions by 10 percent over the next five years. The initiative is thus aimed at the most significant environmental impact of European postal operators: greenhouse gases, which account for around 70 percent of the total impact.
