TNT launches domestic express services in India

TNT – the global provider of mail, express and logistics services announced its domestic foray in India at a press meet in Mumbai today. The expansion plan in India is in line with the global strategy of focusing on building quality networks in emerging markets. TNT will make an investment of 100 million Euro into the Indian market over the next five years, further reinforcing its commitment to the booming Indian economy. This launch makes TNT the first multinational brand in India to offer international and domestic services using an integrated Air and Road network. TNT will clearly be differentiated from its competitors in the express segment, through its offering of a gamut of “first ever” services. TNT aims to be the leading integrated player in the Indian market by 2010.

To spearhead its expansion plans, TNT has currently increased its offices from 17 locations to over 50 locations. By 2006 end there will be more than 144 offices spanning the length and breadth of the country. TNT has also expanded its depot space from 80,000 square feet to over 300,000 square feet with a fleet of more than 1000 vehicles that will traverse close to 300,000 kms per day. TNT will also have over 1600 trained professionals lined up towards meeting the customers’ express distribution requirements.

TNT and union to aim to protect working conditions on German postal market

TNT Post, the Dutch postal service provider, which is also present on the German market, has announced that it plans to collaborate with the services sector union Ver.di to prevent the end of the mail monopoly for German postal operator Deutsche Post from leading simply to a cost war.

TNT Post and the union plan to press for working conditions to be subject to minimum standards.

Cargus banks on 45% rise in turnover

Cargus, the domestic and international courier company derived gross profit worth 2.1 million euros last year, down from the previous year’s figures, according to the company’s preliminary results.

“Compared with 2005, when we posted profit worth approximately 2.5 million euros and turnover amounting to 15.3 million euros, we witnessed a slight decline in 2006, due to the fact that we spent more on investments,” said Augustin Plesea, general manager of the company.

Last year Cargus invested 2.5 million euros in a car fleet, software programmes and promotional activities.

The company estimates turnover will rise this year to 29 million euros, a 45% increase from last year.

Fonseca appointed COO for TNT Western European Business Unit

TNT Express has appointed Mark Fonseca as Chief Operating officer for it’s new Western European Business unit.

Fonseca has been with the company for almost 20 years in numerous positions and will take up the role with immediate effect. Foncseca will report to Chief Executive Donald Pilz and will handle activities in Germany, Benelux, France and Italy. The ‘Western European Business Unit’ is one of six new international business units strategically located worldwide. The other five are situated in UK/Ireland, Americas-Middle East-Africa, China, Australia & New Zealand, and International.
