Dutch TNT Plans Taking Over German PostCon

Dutch mail and express deliveries group TNT NV plans to take over a majority stake in PostCon AG, a consortium of customers of German postal services group Deutsche Post AG, it was reported on July 28, 2006.

TNT has already registered for the takeover through its German subsidiary TNT Post Holding GmbH, the German Federal Cartel Office told German daily Die Welt.

TNT (www.tnt.com) expects the decision of the Cartel Office, scheduled for August 2006, to be positive, on grounds of the Deutsche Post’s market dominating position, according to the report.

TNT Close To Announcing Logistics Unit Sale

Dutch postal and express company TNT NV is close to selling its logistics division, several people familiar with the situation told Dow Jones Newswires Wednesday.
Some of those people said private equity firms PAI Management and Apollo Management LP are on the shortlist for the unit.
However, it wasn’t clear Wednesday if there may be another strategic buyer involved in the process.

TNT Managed Services, a division on TNT Express Specialist Services, has been tasked to provide a full goods in/goods out, portering and mailroom solution at the Financial Times headquarters building at Number One, Southwark Bridge, central London.

The Italian post office delivers profits

By diversifying – by moving into logistics, financial services, and mail-order retail – Poste Italiane has turned its once unproductive infrastructure profitable. Last year mail accounted for less than a third of revenues, which grew 14% over 2004, to 19.5 billion USD.

Net profits jumped too, by 19%, reaching 413 million USD. “Fifteen percent of our revenues are from services that didn’t exist three years ago,” says CEO Massimo Sarmi.

All three TNT Express road hubs in Germany certified

All three German road hubs of TNT Express have been certified under the TAPA “A” ranking since the start of July. TAPA certifications are considered world-wide as the most important and most meaningful safety standards in the transportation industry.

The road hub in Hanover was the first to receive this certificate in November last year. The two hubs in Wiesbaden and Nuernberg were also successfully audited at the end of June.
