TNT India may buy cargo major Gati

The courier and express cargo industry is slated to go through a phase of consolidation. Last year, DHL Express India acquired Blue Dart and the industry is now rife with the speculation of another big-ticket acquisition.

This time, the target is learnt to be Secunderabad-based express cargo major Gati and the company eyeing it is Dutch express cargo and logistics major TNT.

TNT already operates in India, though its presence its currently limited. Gati’s acquisition will give the MNC a pan-India presence. While TNT India refused to confirm the move and described it as a rumour, Gati is in closed period and refused to comment. However, sources say that the two companies are in active negotiations.

TNT provides High-Tech services to Getronics

Getronics has selected TNT Logistics as its partner for its European spare parts logistics. Getronics is one of the world’s leading providers of vendor independent Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions and services. Under this 5-year partnership TNT Logistics will be responsible for the total spare parts supply chain of Getronics in Europe. The total value of the 5-year contract is 50 million Euros.

TNT Logistics has been selected to operate the 6 regional warehouses, over 60 FSL’s (Forward Stock Locations), and more than 675 PUDO’s (Pick Up Drop Off points) across Europe. Transportation of the spare parts will take place primarily via TNT Innight and TNT Express services. Especially for this contract TNT Benelux & Multi Country Logistics has designed a state-of-the-art solution, which will be fully integrated within TNT Logistics’ existing pan-European high-tech spare parts network.

Norway Post and TNT extend cooperation

Norway Post and TNT N.V. have signed a co-operation agreement outlining the two parties’ continued close cooperation. The cooperation between Norway Post and TNT is based on an agreement both companies entered into in May 2004 to jointly provide international express products to Norwegian customers. The companies now announce their ambition to extend their cooperation to include other product areas. Mr. Kaare Frydenberg, CEO of Norway Post, and Mr. Peter Bakker, CEO of TNT, signed the Co-operation Agreement today in the Netherlands. This includes an agreement to immediately set up a task force to explore potential areas of mutually beneficial co-operation in mail, mail related services, express and logistics services.

International express giants rush to Shenzhen market

The international express industry in Shenzhen, a city bordering on Hong Kong, has seen a booming prospect since some 30 home and international express companies including Fedex Express, DHL-Sinotrans, UPS, TNT, rushed to the local market.

The Shenzhen Airport has gradually become an international express logistics center in southern China, said Wang Huicheng, head of the Shenzhen Airport Customhouse.

The number of international expresses via the Shenzhen Airport Customs Monitoring Center totaled 18.899 million pieces last year, weighing 153,000 tons and valuing 10.65 billion yuan, ranking first in China for three consecutive years. UPS, one of the world’s four express giants, chartered airplanes in Shenzhen Airport for international express delivery for the first time starting from April 11, and it plans to have 24 flights a week. The takeoff of a chartered airplane means a keener competition among worlds express giants in Shenzhen.

TPG’s Annual General meeting of shareholders held in Amsterdam

The Annual General Meeting of Shareholders approved today the statutory name change of TPG NV into TNT NV. As a result of the reference to the shares of the group, listed on the Amsterdam, New York, London and Frankfurt stock exchanges, will be TNT. The AGM re-appointed Mr JHM Hommen as member of the Supervisory Board. Following the announcement on 24 March 2005, Mr Hommen has succeeded Mr M Tabaksblat as chairman of the Supervisory Board at the closing of the AGM. The AGM appointed Mrs G Monnas and Mr S Levy as new members of the Supervisory Board. TNT also launched its new corporate website at www.tnt.com/group to reflect the name change.
