China Extends Parcel Restriction Deadline

China’s postal monopoly has extended its deadline for express delivery companies to comply with new restrictions on their businesses, in the first sign it may be softening its stance in a regulatory dispute with its competitors. China Post had issued regulations requiring all express delivery companies to stop handling letters and packages under 500 grams, and register with it to continue their other businesses. A notice in Monday’s People’s Daily extended the original May 6 deadline to June 15.

TNT aims to move in August

TNT Express is delaying a 4 million move to north west Leicestershire for four months.
The parcel giant, which wants to create 200 jobs at a depot in Lount, near Ashby, had been planning to be operational by the start of this month.
But the company says it needs to carry out more work at the site than first envisaged, and has been forced to delay the opening until August.

TPG still sees FY Net from ongoing ops up 5-10 pct

TPG NV said it still expects net income from continuing operations for the full year 2002 to grow by 5-10 pct assuming an unchanged business environment.
“Although the economic cycle still shows no clear evidence of recovery, sentiment continues to indicate that there could be an improvement in the second half of the year,” said CEO Peter Bakker.
In the first quarter, sales rose 8.5 pct to 2.898 bln eur from 2.776 bln, while EBIT fell to 255 mln eur from 331 mln eur, from the same period last year. Net income from continuing operations dropped to 143 mln eur from 168 mln eur. EPS came in at 0.30 eur compared to 0.41 in the first quarter last year.
